Atomos Introduces NEON Series 4K HDR Cinema Recording Monitors

Add an ultrabright HDR display to your field production with the Atomos NEON 17" 4K HDR Monitor/Recorder & AtomX Core Power Box Kit put together by . The kit includes the NEON 17" 4K HDR Monitor/Recorder and the AtomX Power Box dual Gold mount unit developed by Core SWX.

The NEON 17" monitor has a 1920 x 1080 native resolution that supports up to DCI 4K input, and it has an ultra-bright 1000 cd/m? brightness rating and 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Because this monitor is so bright and requires ample power on location, the included AtomX power box provides dual Gold mount battery plates to power the monitor using two separately available high-capacity pro batteries.

Atomos NEON 17" 4K HDR Monitor/Recorder

This Atomos NEON 17" 4K HDR Monitor/Recorder is part of the NEON family of monitor/recorders designed as an accurate and consistent monitoring solution for the field or in an edit suite. With deep blacks, excellent contrast, a 178? viewing angle, and ProRes and DNx recording capability, this monitor allows for on-location evaluation of your image and quick duplication of footage on-site without tying up a separate recorder. This 17" monitor/recorder features a 1920 x 1080 native resolution while supporting DCI and UHD 4K, as well as 1080p/i and 720p. The monitor provides a clear image capable of supporting HDR and displaying a 10-bit image that covers 100% of the DCI P3 standard. Its 1000 cd/m? brightness and 128 zones of backlight allow the monitor to achieve a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1.

The NEON features a Master Control Unit that runs the AtomosOS, controlling the monitor. The Master Control Unit is user-replaceable, so you can have the latest Atomos technology without having to replace the entire monitor. Remote control over your NEON is via a downloadable app and your iOS mobile device. Input your video for display via HDMI or SDI (using the included SDI expansion module) and the monitor displays your video. It can also capture ProRes and DNx to a 2.5" SSD (not included) in the Master Caddy II or to a separately available AtomX SSDmini. The monitor features loop-through and cross conversion outputs, and it supports both Rec 709 and Dolby Vision.

The NEON Lineup of Monitor/Recorders

The NEON line is a series of precision on-set and in-studio 4K HDR monitor/recorders that can be synced together to provide a consistent image display and recording system. Multiple NEON monitors, up to 1000, can all be controlled by the Atomos app running on a single iOS mobile device. This allows you to have each camera outputting to its own NEON, and the synced up NEONs will record footage with matching timecode.

The NEON features a brightness range of 0.002 to 1000 cd/m ².

The App

NEON uses Bluetooth to connect to your iOS mobile device running the Atomos iOS app that controls the built-in AtomosOS. The app provides controlled playback, slow motion, frame-by-frame analysis, and preview tools. Multiple NEONs sync to each other using sub-gigahertz RF that gives them a range up to 656'.

Imaging Tools

Imaging tools include focus peaking, exposure, calibration, zoom, waveform monitor, RGB monitor, vectorscope, and LUT selection.

SDR or HDR

Whether a project is SDR or HDR, the NEON can be configured to match camera acquisition settings or defined delivery standards, including Rec.709, Rec.2100 HLG,?and?PQ (ST.2084). When monitoring with NEON, color stays consistent at every stage of the production pipeline. This ensures that images look their absolute best with no unexpected surprises during the shoot, the edit, the grade, or quality control (QC).

Compatibility

The NEON series is compatible with a variety of HDMI or SDI cameras and other SDI sources. It supports HD (1080) up to 120 fps via HDMI and DCI 4K up to 60 fps, and it features 12G or Dual 6G or lower resolutions and frame rates via 1.5/3G SDI up to 2K60 with up to 12 channels of embedded audio. SDI 3G and 12G input and output make it easy to loop signals through a NEON to other devices on set or in the edit suite. HDMI sources without HDCP are supported at 4K up to 60 fps or HD up to 120 fps with up to eight channels of audio and detection of HDR info frame to automatically match the input signal type.

Recording

Each recording can be reviewed instantly on the NEON without the need to offload media. Files are captured as 10-bit 422 to industry-standard Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHR/HD. AtomRemote offers options to configure scene/shot/take file naming, including rich metadata that can be used by editing software or asset management solution for orchestration.

Removable Cover Glass

The cover glass of the NEON can be removed to help minimize any reflections.

Inputs and Outputs

The NEON is ready for your HDMI production out of the box, supporting HDMI 2.0b. The included SDI Expansion Module provides you with 12G-SDI in, out, and loop-through, as well as cross conversion between SDI and HDMI and vice versa.

Video Output

The monitor outputs to Rec.709, HLG, PQ, LUT, and it can display in SDR or HDR, converting as necessary to Rec.709, HLG, PQ, and LUT.

Flexibility

You can record in online quality at 4Kp60 in real time with ProRes, and Avid DNx with playout to Dolby Vision.

Atomos AtomX/Core Power Box with 6.6' XLR Cable for NEON Monitor (Gold Mount)

To power your NEON monitor on location from a battery rather than from mains power, use this AtomX Core Power Box with 6.6' XLR Cable from Atomos. Developed with Core SWX, this durable aluminum power box provides stable operation for the power-hungry NEON monitors that have a 380W output. A power on/off switch on the side allows you to cut the power to preserve the batteries when not in use.

Two Gold mount battery plates on either side of the unit require batteries with a minimum of 12A load to provide stable power for the monitor. The monitor is then powered using the included 3-pin XLR power cable. It is recommended to have battery packs that are equal in capacity and output to operate, such as two Core SWX NEO 9, NEO 150, or HelixMax Gold mount batteries.
