Wave Distro VERTICAL DE-ESS DUO Overview
Bundling a compact, portable PowerGrid Duo 500-series rack chassis with two powerful high-frequency fixer modules, the Wave Distro De-Ess Duo Bundle with Two DerrEsser Filter Modules offers powerful de-essing, high-frequency limiting, and high-/low-pass filter modes for enhancing any audio source. Ideal for 2-channel or stereo processing, this bundle is ideal for studio recording.
With its high-performance analog VCA circuitry, the DerrEsser module can effectively reduce high-frequency harshness in a musical manner, while low frequencies can be modulated or saturated using the very fast internally fixed attack and release times. The DerrEsser modules offer manual Threshold and Frequency control, with available frequencies ranging from 830 Hz to 10 kHz. Typical traffic light-style LED metering is available as well as a Bad! red LED for indicating that your signal is within 1 dB of hard clipping. Noteworthy design features include unity gain in and out (up to 6 dB of gain on tap), true bypass relay, military-grade switches and relays, and DC-coupled I/O. The input is balanced, while the output features balanced impedance. The DerrEsser modules are hand-built and calibrated in the USA.
- 2-slot vertical chassis for 500-series modules
- Can be mounted on standard 19" equipment racks
- Up to 300mA of stable current for each module
- Stereo Link switch for flexible routing and stereo module configurations
- Ground-lift switch per slot for eliminating hum
- DS mode: as a de-esser in the DS mode (HF Limit off), the threshold can be set to tame harsh S?s (sibilants) that result from an overly bright singer or from EQing to make a vocal sound aggressive and clear.
- HF Limit: in this mode, the DerrEsser essentially acts as a high-frequency compressor. If there is enough high-frequency content to exceed the threshold, then gain reduction occurs.
- High-pass: by using the Listen function, the user can employ the filter circuitry inside the DerrEsser to process their audio. With the Listen button in and the HP/LP switch out, the user will be hearing the high frequencies that are being controlled with the dynamic/compression circuits.
- Low-pass: with the Listen button in, and the HP/LP button in, the user is now listening to the low frequencies, those not affected by the VCA and dynamic/compression circuits. This is a 12 dB per octave filter.
- Vocals (especially singers who work the mic)
- Electric guitar for a tighter sound by band limiting the top end and quieting hiss
- Plucked instruments and acoustic guitar for a smoother, more natural sound
- Percussion, allowing you to tame hi-hat bleed, fattening snares, reducing overhead brightness/harshness, and taming splashy cymbals captured by room mics
- Keyboards, including acoustic pianos (for reducing sharp or plucky sounds) and synthesizers (controlling peaks)
- All bass instruments, allowing you to roll off high frequencies, add harmonics, and much more
- Wave Distro De-Ess Duo Bundle 500-Series Vertical Chassis with Two Empirical Labs DerrEsser Filter Modules
- PowerGrid II Vertical 500-Series Rack Chassis
- 2 x EMPIRICAL LABS DerrEsser ELDS-V 500-Series Dynamic High-Frequency Fixer (Vertical Version)
- Limited 3-Year Manufacturer Warranty
