5 Stars thanks to
I have 2 Shutter Boss 2's and bought this to more easily program multiple interval shots, it is easier to program than my 2's. The headline is based upon my call to B & H customer service upon discovering the new cable for use with my Nikon Z7ii and Z6ii was defective. I had only used the 10 pin plug on the older units on my D 850's so I did not test the other Nikon micro cable. Really wish Nikon had kept the lockable, round 10 pin plugs on the Z6 and Z7. I tested my older Shutter Boss 2 micro cables and one was also defective, but I had one that functioned. B & H was great as always in replacing the defective cable and that is the reason for the 5 star rating. Lesson learned: always test everything upon receipt. Thanks customer service, you continue to be the best around.
Wired or wireless it's a done deal!
Triple 'A' batteries are light and simple to replace. The instruction booklet is excellent! Read it and practice until it it's second nature. Once learned the use is infinite!
Wireless If That's What You Need
Works well for most applications but when doing 120 photos each with 2 minute exposures at a certain point communication was interrupted and some of the shots only exposed for 1/10 of a second. This happened after about 100 shots so it was reliable up until then, there was a window in between the transmitter and receiver so that may have made the signal a little less stable. Ultimately it works for the most part but if you want to take a large amount of photos reliably you'll probably want to wire it directly to your camera. I also wish it would take more than 199 photos before going to infinite photos, sometimes I like to shoot 400 photos for star trails and with this unit I would have to guess how many shots it took in infinity mode before manually stopping it where as some other shutter controllers I've used (though wired) can set more. I'd say it's worth it if you aren't doing star trails but it can still be used for them.
NO WIRES...mostly
There is a wire between the receiver and the camera when shooting wirelessly. And since you can use the transmitter as a wired remote, there's a wire there, too. But I do like the extended functionality that the timer provides and that the backlight stays on longer than it does in the wired version of the Shutterboss.
Lower Range Than Anticipate
Using this at a range of 20-40 ft, it works well, but sometimes does not trigger at longer distance. Beware of advertised rage, which is much longer.
