The Universal Hot Shoe Adapter with 3.5mm and PC Connection from Vello adds a 3.5mm mini phono port and a PC socket sync port to a camera without external strobe connectors and enables attaching an off-camera monolight or studio strobe system. The integrated universal hot shoe makes it possible to simultaneously use a shoe-mounted flash unit at the same time, ideal for using a strobe as your key light, and a flash unit for fill. Are PC Cords Still Used?
Yes. I had an immediate need to mount my Speedlight to a light stand and use a PC connection for a wireless receiver to trigger a flash that had no PC connection. Since all wireless systems are not created equal, not even close, this was necessary and I hope to not need too many more.
Works OK but has some shortcomings...
The female 3.5mm jack is of low quality and plugs fit very loose and sloppy... and bending some of the cheap metal tabs inside the jack doesn't help much either. Next, the PC connector is hot and the flash will fire if you merely touch it, but I opened the thing up and clipped the wires to that connector, thus rendering it inert. Same for the top shoe, as it shorts out if you try to put anything unusual in it. Other than that it does the job, but for $17 I expected a little better quality.
