The Tokina BH779 Lens Hood fits the Tokina 16-50mm f/2.8 AT-X, 12-24mm f/4, and 12-28mm f/4 AT-X Pro DX / APS-C lenses, and is primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
