Studio Technologies Model 201 Overview

The Model 201 Interpreter's Console from Studio Technologies is a complete solution for broadcast uses when multiple languages are needed for interpretation. Working off the Dante network protocol, this device is designed for either local or remote applications. Two independent audio channels allow for seamless control over routing, sidetone signal operation, and sources. A set of push button switches and rotary controls let you establish unique operating conditions, making tailor-made mixes for each output.

Flexible headphone functions are also included onboard the unit. 3.5mm TRRS and 5-pin XLR connections cover a wide range of headset models. Four different equalizer presets are available for the headphone path, while a slowdown function lets the interpreter communicate with the presenter to speak more slowly, if warranted.

The Model 201 supports Dante Audio-over-Ethernet protocol, all while being powered over a single Ethernet connection, thanks to Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). Further configurations can be altered using the STcontroller software application.

Headphone Output Channels

The Model 201 provides a 5-pin female XLR and 3.5mm TRRS output for flexible headset pairing. A push switch and three separate rotary controls on the front panel allow you to set desired headphone audio sources while simultaneously adjusting signal levels. Even more control is offered with the two input selectors for Floor and Relay channels. Each input can be isolated by itself or summed to create a blended headphone cue. For even more curated sonics, four onboard equalizer presets can be selected for transparent or fine-tuned listening.

Interpret Channel Flexibility

With two independent output channels, you are able to create two monitor paths for various language applications. When one interpret channel is active via latching switches, an 18 kHz sine-wave tone can be added with the microphone signal. This is especially valuable during remote applications that require an indication to the speaker. A separate switch on the front panel allows for momentary muting of the microphone signal for creating a cough function for the interpreter.

Slowdown and Hot Mic Functions

Slowdown ?A unique feature found on the Model 201 is the slowdown function. Once activated via a dedicated front-panel switch, the slowdown function alerts the speaker to talk slower so the interpreter can catch up and sends an 18 kHz sine wave through a Dante transmitter output channel.

Hot Mic?The Hot Mic can be configured for four different use cases. Firstly, a traditional hot mic takes the output of the microphone preamp from the speaker. Two other choices allow the microphone signal to be present when an interpret channel is enabled. Lastly, the main audio signal can be routed for the slowdown function.

Dante Audio-Over-Ethernet and PoE

Using a single Ethernet cable, audio can be sent and received via the Dante protocol. All audio is configured at 24-bit / 48 kHz. The Model 201 is also compatible with the AES67 standard when using the Dante Domain Manager (DDM) software application. The included STcontroller software allows for even more channel operation for creating flexible routing. Further flexibility is provided with Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) via the RJ45 connector on the rear panel.

USB Function for Firmware and Audio

An onboard USB female port allows for firmware updates and storing two stereo 16-bit audio files, via a standard USB flash drive. With regards to the latter, this can be very helpful during setup when needing to identify specific interpretation channels.
