The SPL SMC Surround Monitor Controller is an audiophile-grade speaker and source-management processor for 5.1 surround and stereo playback. Use it for surround and stereo production as well as postproduction for film and multimedia projects.
The device offers balanced connections over the built-in DB25 connector, and unbalanced connections over RCA connections. These connections are individuated for stereo and surround setups�and you can switch between them at will.
The SMC offers controls not prevelant on your usual soundcard. With this device, you can adjust the levels of each output, fold L/R signal to mono, and fold Ls/Rs signals to mono. You can dim the signal by -20 dB, and you can mute all sound at any time. As the unit can manage several input sources at once, you can use it to compare and monitor material from multiple sources, without introducing extra AD/DA conversion stages.
