SmallRig MD3990 Overview
Take advantage of the space on the top of the Sony FX3 XLR Unit to add accessories with this Top Plate from SmallRig. This aluminum and stainless steel top plate mounts onto the top of the FX3 XLR unit and includes an adapter that allows you to secure it onto the SmallRig FX3 Top Handle Extension using a 3/8"-16 thread. The plate provides a shoe mount and multiple 1/4"-20 threads to mount accessories such as a monitor, light, or microphone.

You need the small rig handgrip for the fx3 for this to fit..

I hate cages, they make cameras heavy and bulky. For run & gun filmmaking, with this part you don't need anything else on your Fx3 .
Does the trick!
Now I am able to mount my 5 monitor on top of the audio unit and no worries about weight. It is a dependable connection and places the monitor forward which is much better than at the other end of the handle which is too close to my face. If you have nothing to mount then there is no point but if you do (audio, monitor, etc) then this is perfect.

I was curious how secure this would feel, rest assured it's very secure, and it's really nice to have the mounting options on top of the audio box. It also helps keep a low profile when mounting stuff on top of the camera.
