Sky-Watcher S11610 Reviews
It's so good
I was amazed when I first saw the moon. I live in a pretty lit area and I was still able to see stars with it. I can't wait to take it on my adventures.
Great quality
Great quality! Sharp images, only thing it lacks is guide scope is not angled and only has single focus instead of duel focuser. But with short supply and long wait times if have to have one now this one will work. For your first telescope it's a beast!
Pros & Cons Review
Let's start with how it arrived. Horrific!!! I was so surprised my mirrors & entire scope was not damaged, but it wasn't. Only a small scratch on side of tube where box was crushed that I easily buffed out. Not sure what all the red dye was on the scope but 95% of it I was able to remove. Clearly FedEx does not understand handle with care LOL! So, if yours arrives like this it might still be okay (photos attached). Positives: I'm a woman over 50 and it took me about 2 hours all alone to assemble and collimate the scope. Easy to follow assembly instructions. Please know I'm not a beginner and I've wanted a large Dobsonian for years now. In my opinion, this is the perfect beginner scope but it is large and you will need significant space for storage. The tube is not heavy just awkward. The base however is sturdy and fairly heavy but has an easy carry handle. If you're not sure you will use a telescope often then stick with a nice table top or smaller less expensive telescope. The eyepiece holder in front of the telescope worked great for me but might not work for everyone. The views and images from the 25mm eyepiece were clear. The tensioner is by far the best feature. It allows you to lock the telescope from sliding during viewing. Other brands require weights on the back of the scope and have complicated spring tensioners that to me were bothersome. This hand tensioner was amazing and the primary reason I chose Sky Watcher vs. Orion. If you want to attach a DSLR camera it is so easy with this telescope, just make sure you have the correct T-ring adapter and you will be good to go with attaching a camera. I did purchase an additional accessory holder for a cell phone and that worked out perfect! It took some time figuring out how to properly attach it though. The finder scope worked great for me and took some time to adjust it with the eyepiece of the telescope. Is it ideally located for viewing? No, but neither is the laser pointer adjuster on Orion telescopes. I personally liked this finder scope on the Sky Watcher better. You should definitely get the finder scope aligned and adjusted during daylight. Negatives: Eyepieces are okay for a beginner but they are not Plossi lenses as indicated on the photo on website. They are 100% Kellner eyepieces. It comes w/a 10mm & 25 mm Kellner eyepieces. The 10 mm eyepiece would not focus for me no matter what I tried and arrived missing the rubber eye edges it also looked beat up & previously used? Not sure why. That eyepiece was useless. I just swapped my Orion plossi 10 mm eyepiece from another telescope and it worked fine. Another thing I discovered was for some odd unknown reason it would not work with my Orion 2x Barlow eyepiece so I'll have to get another brand like Celestron or Tele Vue Barlow. This telescope does need time to acclimate to outdoor temperature so make sure you give yourself the extra time needed there. It is larger than dimensions listed. Actual are: 51 3/8"h x 20.5"base x 21"w and did not fit in my telescope cabinet. No regrets though! In summary: This is a great telescope and I have zero regrets. If you want to attach your DSLR you'll need a few other accessories to purchase. can help you with that. The scope is not heavy, just awkward to carry and the base is the heaviest part. We had very cold weather and the telescope needed more time to acclimate to the temperature outside than my smaller scope and then it started to dew and fog up after about an hour gazing in 30 degree temps. I did discover a cool feature by accident which is; you can leave the cap cover on and remove the lense hole cover and view right thru that at moon and Jupiter. It actually prevented wind debris/dust and dew build up on the mirrors. Overall I could not be more thrilled and happy with my new Sky Watcher 200P Dobsonian. Thank you for having it in stock and answering all my questions prior to purchasing. Thanks to Sky Watcher for making an amazingly affordable and great telescope. LOVE IT!! Happy Viewing!
