Schoeps DESERT ISLAND SET MK 4 Overview
The matte-gray Schoeps Desert Island Stereo Set with MK 4 Capsules is a versatile microphone kit designed for capturing high-quality stereo recordings in various settings. It includes two CMC 1U miniature Colette microphone preamps, two MK 4 cardioid matched capsules (with their matching certificate), and two SG20 stand clamps, all neatly packaged in an ultracompact Peli hard case for protection. The MK 4 capsule is renowned for its flat frequency response and consistent cardioid pattern across all frequencies, making it a reliable "problem solver" in challenging recording situations. Its transparent sound and effective rear-incident sound attenuation allow for natural sound reproduction. The MK 4 is particularly suited as a spot microphone for acoustic instruments or conference recordings, and frequently serves as part of the main microphone pair in XY, ORTF, and MS stereo setups.
The matte gray Schoeps CMC 1 U is a miniature Colette Series microphone amplifier offering uncompromising high fidelity in a lightweight and ultracompact form factor for studio recording, broadcast, and live stage applications. Presented as an alternative to the renowned Schoeps CMC 6 amplifier, the CMC 1 U is compatible with all existing MK mic capsules and Colette active accessories (all available separately).
It features a balanced XLR output, compliance with 12 or 48V phantom power, and low current consumption. Its Schoeps RFI Shield provides high immunity from RF interference for a clean, low-noise signal. The CMC 1 U supports the high maximum SPLs tolerated by the various MK mic capsules (available separately).

The matte gray MK 4 Microphone Capsule from Schoeps comes as a matched pair, and offers high quality sound, flat frequency response, optimal rejection of rear-incident sound, and a directional pattern that remains constant throughout the audio frequency range. In the diffuse sound field, it shows only a mild rise of around 10 kHz; the sonic impression thus remains free of coloration even when sound is arriving from all sides at once. The sonic impression is also free of coloration whether sound is arriving at the front or at the sides of the microphone, as well as for diffuse sound (reverberation) in a room.
The MK 4 Microphone Capsule is often preferred by opera singers and other trained vocalists. But its natural, transparent character makes it suitable for use in pop and rock applications, on stage or in the studio, where equalization is a part of the plan. This microphone, with clear, neutral sound quality, provides a suitable point of departure whenever special coloring is needed.
The Schoeps SG20 Microphone Stand Adapter is designed to stand mount microphones measuring 20mm or 21mm in diameter. The SG20 features a strong metal housing and a durable plastic clamp. Its base is threaded for 5/8"-27 stands, and a threaded adapter is included to accommodate 3/8" and 1/2" mounting. The angle is continuously variable.
