The CCM 22 Open Cardioid Compact Microphone with LEMO Disconnect from Schoeps has an open cardioid directional pattern, a pattern between wide cardioid and cardioid. It is a miniature true classic condenser microphone (no electret used). The capsule and amplifier form an inseparable unit in a single housing. The microphone includes a K5 LU 16 Detachable LEMO to XLR-3M Adapter Cable with 3mm diameter, SGC stand, and wood box.
The open-cardioid directional pattern occupies a point on the spectrum between the wide cardioid and classic cardioid patterns. The response is -5 dB at 90 and there is 16 dB suppression of rear-incident sound. It is in essence a variant cardioid which balances a very natural sound quality with a good degree of directionality.
The CCM 22 has been developed for use as a spot microphone. It unites the strengths of the CCM 4 and CCM 21 microphones. Its directionality is only slightly less than that of the CCM 4 cardioid, while its sonic character is reminiscent of the CCM 21 wide cardioid. Its directivity is essentially constant throughout the frequency range. Its inherent low-frequency response is somewhat more pronounced than that of the cardioid, while proximity effect is somewhat less.
The CCM 4 cardioid microphone is often relied upon as a reference microphone, even in difficult recording situations; its sonic transparency and superior suppression of rear-incident sound make it a universal problem solver. The CCM 21 wide cardioid microphone offers an alternative when its lower directivity fits the recording situation, e.g. for the first desk of strings or for solo piano. This microphone type is prized for its sonic character (similar to that of a pure omni directional microphone) and its relative lack of proximity effect. The CCM 22 open cardioid microphone combines these characteristics into a single capsule.
The included K 5 LU cable is an adapter cable from the LEMO output connector of the CCM _L Compact Condenser Microphones to XLR-3M.
The included Miniature Stand Mount with Swivel SGC is adjustable from 0 through 100 in either direction. The internal thread of the SGC screws onto any 3/8 rod (e.g., vertical support rods STR) or stand adapter. The SGC is an integral part of the HC miniature cable hanger and the TCg table stand.
- True condensers do not require electronic frequency-response correction
- Balanced, low-impedance output via removable 16.4' (5m) cable; LEMO to XLR-3M connector
- For universal use
- Small and light
- LEMO disconnect allows for use of special accessories
- Boasts flat frequency response
- Sound is extensively independent of directional pattern
- Has low noise and distortion
- Runs on both 48 and 12V phantom
- Can be used with very long cables over 328' (100m)
- Matte gray non-reflective surface finish
- Open cardioid directional pattern
- Optimal combination of classic cardioid directionality (MK 4) with the sonic character of the wide cardioid (MK 21)
- Directional pattern largely constant throughout the frequency range
- Often preferred for spot-miking and as a soloist's microphone
- Applications: Stage (fixed) & studio, spot-miking in the orchestra
- Can be used with general instruments including organs, tympani, bass drums, violins, saxophones
