Description
- Contains 0.6, 0.9, 1.2 Solid ND Filters
- Reduce Exposure by 2, 3, or 4 Stops
- Greater Control Over Exposure Settings
- Rugged Black Brass Filter Rings
- High Quality Schott Glass
- 4.5" Drop-In Filter Holder
- For Lenses without Front Threads
- Compact Alternative to Matte Box
The Schneider Compact ND Kit for 114mm-Diameter Lenses contains three 4.5" round drop-in solid neutral density filters and a 4.5" round filter holder that is specifically designed for 114mm-diameter lenses without front filter threads. This kit is ideally suited to cine lenses, such as the Zeiss CP.2 and Canon Cinema EOS Primes, and serves as a more compact, streamlined method for using filters with these larger lenses when compared to a standard matte box.
The three included solid neutral density filters have 0.6, 0.9, and 1.2 optical densities and provide an overall exposure reduction of 2, 3, and 4 stops, respectively. They create a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. The filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity and feature rugged brass filter rings for durability and rigidity.
The 114mm SSLR 4.5" Adapter Ring is a low-profile clamp-on locking ring adapter for use with both 4.5" round and 115mm drop-in type filters. It clamps onto the outside of lenses without front filter threads and provides a compact profile for using filters with larger, cine type lenses.
- 4.5" Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Filter
A Schneider 4.5" Neutral Density 0.6 Filter has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance.
Determining which neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Speaking generally, the 2-stop value (ND 0.6) effectively compensates average situations.
- High-Quality Construction
- Schneider color filters feature crystal clear, water-white optical glass, protected against edge-chipping and delamination by Schneider's unique Edge Seal, which also significantly reduces edge reflections and flare
Schneider Quality Control
- Schneider filters are ground and polished to a precise flatness and plane parallelism
- Because all Schneider filters are designed and manufactured with the highest possible degree of consistency, you can swap like filters mid-shoot with no discernible variation in color or effect
Neutral Density Filters Have Four Main Uses
- To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
- To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
- To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure
Neutral Density Factors
- ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop, reduces ISO by 1/2)
- ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO by 1/4)
- ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO by 1/8)
- ND 1.2 (exposure adjustment = 4 stops, reduces ISO by 1/16)
