Rotolight NEO 3 Overview
Rotolight continues to push on-camera lighting technology forward with the release of the incredibly compact and yet super bright NEO 3. Blending continuous RGBWW LED technology with flash functionality, including high-speed sync, it allows hybrid shooters a powerful lighting solution for all their work.
The Diffuser Dome from Rotolight attaches to the front of the NEO 3 LED light. It diffuses the light and lowers contrast, making it ideal for interviews or anytime you want a softer effect.
As for size, the NEO 3 is small and designed for use on camera with a form factor that measures just 5.7" in diameter and is under 2" thick. A weight of 12.5 oz makes sure you aren't weighed down.
Color accuracy is just as important, if not more important, than variety and the NEO 3 achieves a TLCI rating of 99. This ensures accurate rendering of your subjects. If you use filters, the light offers 2500 digital options based on those from LEE and Rosco.
The light uses battery power via standard NP-F style packs. These batteries are available in multiple sizes and provide long runtimes.
Rotolight does make iOS and Android apps for even more control over the NEO 3, including multiple lights at the same time. These apps are able to communicate with lights as long as they are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Great but Loud
This is a revolutionary light and there's a lot to love. The poor fan implementation makes it hard for video work with audio and that really hurts. There is silent video mode, but it cuts the brightness a whole lot. The normal auto mode will cut the fan on and off, which is the worst. It's a tiny fan that makes a lot of noise. They could have done way better on the cooling. Fan noise the only real negative. I do wish it worked natively with the Godox controllers. The Elenchrome controllers that it uses are expensive. You can control it from a bluetooth phone app or just walk over to the light, so it's not a big deal. It's got a sync cable, so I use that for the flash mode. It flashes nice and bright, but in flash mode the Modeling light is not full power. It would be great to have full power modeling and flash. I'm guessing that this is a cooling issue. It's also not TTL for the flash. If they used the Godox TTL controller system this would a wildly fantastic light. All those shortcomings aside, this is still a unique and tremendously useful light. I highly recommend it for all kinds of stuff in Stills & Video. Ultra-portable, Bright-enough, Good Batteries, RGB Color, Good CRI. It's RGB and can make any color, that's really cool! Great for on camera work or in a modifier. Easy to understand controls. Very useful. I have a ton of lights and this one is so easy to use in situations where I don't want to take big stuff.
Brilliant!
In my experience, Rotolight has always focused more on the quality, than the quantity of light from their fixtures. With the Neo 3 you get both. Years ago, I bought the original Neo, and although it's output was significantly lower than the Neo 3, I found the quality to be superb, especially when rendering skin tones. At that time several other manufacturers were producing LED lights, with much brighter output, for less money, but the light from most of them added a dreary gray cast that was especially unpleasant when trying to render skin tones. (Unless of course one was making a vampire movie.) Let's face it, whether you make your living in fashion, portraiture, television, film, or just about any other field of photography that involves people, when it comes to color space, nothing matters more than skin tones. And when it comes to LED lighting, no one does skin tones better than Rotolight. But the NEO 3 goes so far beyond beyond beautiful skin tones. The built in SFX, instant access to 2500 matched gel colors from Rosco and Lee, and millions of colors that you can create on the fly, makes the NEO 3 indispensable for anyone who wants or needs the ability to add color to a scene, but doesn't want to carry around a huge pack of gels. (The fact that the folks at Rotolight actually made the effort to sample all those gels in the first place is kind of unbelievable.) And as if all that isn't enough, the NEO3 can easily link to your cell phone, for complete access to the onboard controls! So when your NEO is mounted in a hard to reach spot, (like 9 feet above the studio floor) you can still make any changes you need with a couple clicks and swirls on your phone. My favorite mounting method when using the NEO 3 off-camera, is to screw an Impact Double-Ended Spigot with 1/4-20 threads into the bottom of the light, and clamping the 5/8 stud into a gobo arm on a C-stand. After test driving my first NEO 3 I immediately ordered a second one. Not only do Rotolights newest LED fixtures produce gorgeous light with an essentially infinite color palette, they provide a remote interface that is far superior to DMX. I applaud CEO Rod Gammons, his family and the Rotolight staff for their decision to steal the high tech interface from their Titan line, and add it to the NEO, AEOS, and ANOVA lines. You can now get the same fantastically intuitive interface and technology of a Titan, at a fraction of the Titan price. Last but not least, the lights are actually designed and manufactured in the UK, not a communist country. For the money, whichever model you choose, Rotolights are worth every penny.

These lights are all I need!
I had to purchase a third light as I realized these are perfect for a 3-point lighting setup. I shoot a lot of interviews and have never been able to match room color temperatures this well. If you have room to walk these lights in, they are fantastic. If you're looking for something that'll throw light further, these might not be for you. Be sure to download the app to be able to control your lights from your phone!

Incredibly bright, super portable, battery lasts super long on flash mode, zero recycle time, color temp and an infinite selection of gel colors. These are amazing!
NEO 3 = Awesome
The NEO 3 light is very powerful and bright. Using the touch controls to set the color or other options is very easy. The front defuser dome gives a softer light on your subject.
