Really Right Stuff PG-01 LR Overview
The PG-01 Compact Pano-Gimbal Head from Really Right Stuff is an ultra-portable, lightweight tripod head offered in numerous configurations depending on the needs of the user. This version includes a lever-release Arca-type quick release clamp and an integrated leveling base with Arca-type dovetail compatibility.
Designed as both a panoramic and gimbal head, the PG-01 is recommended for users wishing to capture single or multi-row panoramas with non-collared lenses. It can also be used as a small gimbal support for cameras with medium telephoto lenses, or in layman's terms, lenses no larger than a traditional 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. With a load capacity of 8 lb, Really Right Stuff suggests using this head exclusively for mirrorless cameras or small DSLR'susers with larger gear should consider similar heads with higher weight capacities.
The PG-01's design consists of two arms that control the rotation and swing of the cameras position. The base arm is connected directly to the integrated base rotator, which features a laser-engraved 360° scale for accurate positioning when capturing single or multi-row panoramas. The vertical arm, which mounts to the base arm via an Arca-type clamp, may be positioned with the assistance of a laser-engraved millimeter scale. The vertical arm also features an adjustable rotator with engraved 360° markings and a lever-release equipped Arca-type clamp for mounting and dismounting your camera, extension plate, or nodal slide.
This version of the PG-01 also includes an integrated leveling base built into the horizontal rotator. The inclusion of the base eliminates the need for users to purchase a separate leveling device or use with PG-01 with an additional ball head. The base is controlled by a precision-machined knob that provides the user with maximum locking power for a stable grip. Accurate leveling is achieved with the assistance of a built-in bubble level, which has been placed at the far-end of the horizontal arm.
Additional technical features include a 3/8"-16 tripod mounting thread, an Arca-type dovetail integrated into the base rotator, a lightweight construction of just 1.2 lb, and an included 5/32 hex key with magnetic storage slot.

Really Right Stuff PG-01 LR Reviews
Perfect panos
Very stable for 2 -row panos
Lightweight and compact?but
I am worried about the fixing force if it is heavy equipment
I love RRS, but this design needs some work
I am a huge fan of RRS. They are an amazing company that has great products that last a lifetime and they stand behind their products with superb customer service. BUT, I am disappointed with this product. The idea is fabulous, a pano head for smaller mirrorless camera, that is lighter, packable, and easy to travel with. The problem is with the pano head. It's very very hard to operate. The leveling knobs is linked to the pano knob. So, if you loosen the pano knob a tiny itsy bit to allow you to pan, you mess up the leveling. I guess it's not a big deal if you don't need to be precise. But, then what is the freaking point of spending $300+ for this if it's not precision? There are plenty of things in the market for about a third of the price that will give you equally imprecise results. RRS, I hope you take this back to the drawing board and come up with a version 2.0 as this is a fabulous idea that needs to be better executed.
RRS Quality for Pano
As one reviewer mentioned something to the effect that when you buy RRS
Not the best
I like Really Right Stuff equipment but was disappointed in this unit. I use a Sony mirrorless camera and bought this because it is recommended for this size camera. I found the locking knobs for the panning and tilt small for my hands and it was hard to get a good lock and then to unlock to reposition the camera. After a days use my fingers were sore. The quality is good but they should look into making a better locking knob that is more user friendly. I was using this a 90* day, I cant imagine using it on a cold day.
This is an exceptionally good compact Pano-Gimbal head.
Im not sure why there are negative remarks below in some of the reviews. The panning and leveling knobs are independent of each other. And I personally dont have any issues with any of the adjustments, but I digress. This is an exceptionally good compact Pano-Gimbal head. It comes with the RRS quality that weve come to expect. This head is light weight for the type of unit it is. Its also extremely compact and portable for a camera bag because I can break it down narrow or flat. This head is essential for vertical panos. And although it seems like its marketed towards light weight cameras, I used this with a Canon 5DS R and 70-200mm f/2.8 II with no issues. Its especially great with my new and lighter R5 and RF 70-200mm 2.8. Is the head perfect? No, but I like it anyway. Its a great compliment to my RRS BH-40 Ball Head when I need or prefer this type of unit.
Fair value
Overall, the pg-01 feels well made and sturdy enough for moderate weight and sized rigs. I'm generally satisfied. My first attempts with it stitched together with minimum fuss. Areas for improvement: 1. Both panning locks are too stiff and sticky - difficult to tighten smoothly and completely. Once tightened down, they both hold well enough, but there is significant initial settling on the vertical arm lock. Sure, this is easy to adjust for, but a smoother locking mechanism would be faster, more accurate, and provide a greater sense of product quality. Neither pan pivot is particularly smooth, making accurate pan advances difficult. The leveling mechanism would be improved by the addition of damping or a separate friction knob. Centering the bubble, even with no camera is something of a challenge. Like all RSS products I've purchased, the Pg-01 feels sturdy, but not quite finished, as if the user is expected to do the final burnishing (through use) of the bearing systems. It's definitely quality, but more Ford F-150 than Mercedes S-class.
