The BH-55 Ball Head with Screw-Knob Panning Clamp from Really Right Stuff is a 2.3 lb ball head that will support large camera/long lens combinations weighing up to 50 lb. Crafted from aluminum and stainless steel, the BH-55 has all of the features you'd expect from a professional-level head. An over-sized, ergonomic locking knob allows 45-degree tilting in all directions and dual 90-degree drop-notches facilitate quick and accurate switching from the horizontal landscape position to vertical portrait orientation. A separate tension knob is provided to apply the appropriate pressure that safely corresponds to the weight of your camera. A third knob loosens and locks the panning base which is laser-engraved with markers every 2.5 degrees from 0 to 360 degrees. This version of the head has a special panning quick release with a bubble level and markings to 360 degrees making it ideal for panoramas.

Extremely Bad
Had ordered this BH-55 , as few images were showed by rrs Instagram , that it can be used with super telephoto lenses also but rrs is bluffing this ball head is not recommended for super telephoto lenses, the moment will Mount your super telephoto lens with this ballhead and accidentally if you loose any of the the ball head knob it will drop with the big Jerk and it can accidentally drop your 10 to 15,000 dollar equipment I was looking out for a ball head that can be used in landscape as well as wildlife photography but this 55 is only for landscape and not at all for super telephoto lens. I recently bought flexshooter Ball head and hopefully it's been living upto my expectations, will be reviewing it and update

Yes! BH55 Screw Knob Panning Clamp
Theres a old adage: a poor man pays twice. You certainly dont need to buy another ball head after this one. Ive mated this up to a Robus RC-5570 tripod and the combination is outstanding for me. The platform easily holds my Nikon D7100 with a 200-500 without any iffy issues. A quick short twist of the lock knob and its there to stay. I am eager to use it in my macro work and I expect the same solid, stable behavior. I chose the screw knob over the leaver release clamp because I feel the screw knob will have more secure tension on the plate but thats just what my gut says and I didnt get the two different ones to compare. My only gripe is the lack of a serial number, at this level of quality and price point I would have thought theyd be serialized and registerable. At the end of the day, this ball head rocks.

This is just a phenomenal product. Quality that is rare these days. I have found the feature to put some pre tension into the ball head to stop your camera from flopping around to be a very good. It is easy and lightning fast to acquire a level camera like no other tripod head I have ever use. It is also silky smooth and the over size position locking knob is perfect. I was told that the weight of it would be and issue, I don't agree. I hike with mine and fined really no issue. To have this stunning level of quality you will get some weight. What ever extra weight you carry it is totally out stripped by the function and performance of this state of the art tripod head. I could not be happier with my purchase.
Would buy again
Heavy duty. The ball locks tight easily, but when unlocking it sometimes feels sticky for lack of a better word. would buy again as I like it better than my acratech. the quality of construction is certainly top notch. lastly the design for the main locking knob i thought was odd but having used it i quiet like it.
If it would break in my life (I doubt it), I'd buy another 1
It's been a long time since I want to try this bad boy and my oh my does this purchase is worth it. Solid, well constructed, easy to use, do NOT need any tool or allen key, works like a charp on either my slider, my tripod or my monopod. It's RAD!
Very smooth
This has a lot of controls on it, all of which are very intuitive. I really like the panning clamp since it gives me some freedom to swing my camera around on an axis that I set using the ball head. The build quality is very smooth and well made, and I always enjoy the smooth feel of the knobs. The drag controls took me a couple hours to get used to, but after I got used to it, I really enjoy it. It helps you get your fine adjustments in. This head also has a minimal amount of flop and slop, so it's possible to set things up precisely. I definitely recommend this ballhead if you need something for your heavier cameras. It even works for some of the smaller monorail view cameras in a pinch if you need it.
The best ballhead out there
I have had this for several years, and bought a second onw now for a friend. This is super sturdy. Using it with Canon 1DXMk3 and EF11-24mm. Super sturdy. My tripod is Gitzo 5 series and 4 series. You will never have any problems with sagging with this one.
