The Ascend-14 Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod with Integrated Ball Head from Really Right Stuff is a compact, all-in-one travel tripod with an Arca-type ball head integrated in the center column. The full-featured ball head nestles in the leg apex collar with a compact design that still supports up to 30 lb. Made for travel with lightweight carbon-fiber construction, the Ascend-14 Compact opens to a maximum height of 59.9", yet it folds down to a compact 18.6" for travel or storage.

At only 3 lbs. and 18.5 this tripod is built for awesome adventures where compact, light, yet sturdy tripod. I am typically not a fan of tripods with 4 sections because often the lower leg sections are unstable; however this tripod is definitely an exception to that. An other added feature is the center column is extremely steady, removable, and able to be attached inverted for low shots. This is a perfect travel tripod to use for all occasions, especially for backpacking or birding.

This compact travel tripod is small and light - almost looks like a toy when folded up. However, when extended it works magnificently. It is stable and the included head is easy to use and works well. The 30 pound load capacity is phenomenal given the small size of this unit. I ordered the cap cover from RRS that covers the flat screw knob that controls rotation. This makes it easier to find and use. Price is frightening, but the unit is solid.
