PolarPro Peter McKinnon 6-9 Stops VND Ed2 Overview
The 95mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition Variable ND 1.8 to 2.7 Filter from PolarPro is designed for lenses with 95mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 6 to 9 stops. The 1.8 to 2.7 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than usually possible. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing the exposure time, you convey movement or increase the blur. By increasing the aperture, the image depth of field can be more easily controlled. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring features a numbered scale of the stop values, and it also features haptic feedback to feel a click when reaching a number without the need to look at the ring. The ring features side knurling for a secure grip and to further enable fast and precise positioning, and it is designed to prevent any rotation beyond the stop values etched on it.
This filter is constructed from quartz glass for enhanced durability. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, 16 layers of antireflective coatings offer scratch protection to the filter substrate while promoting clarity and color fidelity. The coatings also provide improved beading when in contact with water or oil, allowing for more efficient cleaning.
The quartz optics are set within an aluminum alloy filter ring assembly for lightweight durability. The unique Defender 360 hybrid case/cover is included for storage and transport and acts as both a front cap when the filter is in place on a lens and as a rigid dustproof and waterproof storage case by adding the rear cover when the filter is not in use.

PolarPro Peter McKinnon 6-9 Stops VND Ed2 Reviews
Filter seems to work, except...
If you're using any other lens besides the Canon RF 28-70mm lens or Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS, you're probably ok. You need a step-up ring, except you aren't really stepping up. You're needing a coarse to fine ring what it actually comes to. PolarPro sells this for $39, yet it won't be available until Oct 25. So I have a $250 paperweight for now. That said, it appears to work when you look through it, but until I can actually mount it to my lens, it's totally useless. I know, not much of a review, but I wanted people to know this in case they are buying it for either of these lenses.
PolarPro 77mm Peter McKinnonND
Works great!! Just as attended. It has a click/notch at 6,7,8,9. Love it! Expensive as heck! Still love it!
Essential accessory for video shooting
I use this filter for outdoor shooting and I love it. Excellent built quality and great results.
Well built filter
The 1.8 to 2.7 is perfect when filming in direct sunlight, you need to shoot at 2.8f, and you are at 800iso. Plus other photography uses too. I have not noticed much color shift. This is a well built VND.
Ease of use makes it a winner
Very good quality ND - slight cast and slight vignette at the higher stops when using my widest lens (20mm), but better than the cheaper Tiffen filter it replaced. The real winning quality is the included case/defender cap system, makes it so easy to put on, leave on, and take off when needed. Makes me reach for it far more than other screw filters I've had, which alone makes it worth the price tag for me - What good is a cheaper filter that I don't bother bringing with me because its a hassle to use and protect.
Lives up to the hype
My first PolarPro filter and simply wow. It does not degrade the image quality captured through my best lenses. I went with the 6-9 stop version for outdoor use in sunny California. Because it's limited to 3 stops, there is no noticeable vignetting. The 6-9 stop is also great on dual ISO cameras. So in some situations where even the 6 stop is too much, I go up to the higher native ISO and bam, back in business. I also use this with a step-up ring for the Sony 35mm 1.8 which is a 55mm thread and it works like a charm as well. The case is also very functional and has a dense rubber lid that can be used as a lens cover when filter is attached. Highly recommended.
Like Having a Built-In ND Filter on my Lumix S1H
I don't see why I'll ever remove this from my Lumix S Pro 50mm. Maybe only for the 2 to 5-Stop for lower light indoor conditions. I tried others before and there was always some crazy vignetting that you can't remove in post. I don't see that here at all. If you need, and why wouldn't you, to open up your aperture... get them. I'm now thinking of buying the mist edition just to take that clinical look away from the sharp, modern lenses that I use.
Excelente
at first I was using the 2-5 variable and it wasn't enough to keep my 50mm f1.2 at f1.2. This 6-9 variable nd solved everything. I actually recommend both because there's a time of the day for different nds.
