Offered here in black, the HD PENTAX-D FA 21mm f/2.4ED Limited DC WR Lens from Pentax provides an ultra wide-angle field of view on K-mount full-frame DSLR cameras. An ideal lens for architectural and landscape photography, this lens provides you with a sophisticated optical design for outstanding sharpness and even illumination. The broad 92° angle of view is well-suited to all-around shooting for both interior and exterior locations. When used for distant subjects such as landscapes, it assures solid, uniform image rendition across the image field and delivers sharp, clear, high-resolution images.
Contrasting the broad, wide-angle perspective is a close-focusing system that provides a minimum focusing distance of 7.1" along with a 0.26x maximum magnification for working with nearby subjects. Its f/2.4 maximum aperture allows for working in low-light conditions and also affords greater control over depth of field for isolating subject matter. An eight-blade rounded diaphragm also contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality. This lens also features a high-grade HD coating for exceptional image rendition, which controls ghosting and flare to realize high contrast imagery with accurate, neutral color balance, plus protective SP coating on the front lens surface to repel dust, stains, and debris. Additionally, the barrel, hood, and cap are all made of high-grade aluminum, meticulously machined for an attractive appearance and beautiful texture.

Pentax FA 21mm f/2.4 Limited Reviews
Outstanding lens
I used this lens for a low angle evening light painting photoshoot. The results were spectacular.
(Yet) Another reason to keep with Pentax
Wide angle full frame lenses have been in short supply when running a k1. I have a 15-30 (tamron branded Pentax) and some older k glass. I was really excited as well as anxious to buy this 21mm 2.4 limited lens last week-end. The only one in stock so nothing on display. Immediately did one of my favourite walks across the Manhattan Bridge to Dumbo and back over the Brooklyn in a hard clear December New York light then later in the evening on 5th Avenue. Imagers were alive, tack sharp and honest to the subject. Smaller lighter and tighter than the 15-30 and 28-70.along the lines of the 50* but more compact. Takes a circular filter even with the fixe lend hood. Now my go-to walk around in tall cities. Worth the money for sure.
Sharp wide open; needs no post processing
My expectations for a limited lens performance were set by the HD FA 31/1.8 - a quite high bar. This lens definitely surpassed it: straight out of camera images are rich in tonality to the point I don't need to open shadows or add clarity. Sharpness at f/2.4 is very impressive across the frame, and bokeh is fluid and morphs beautifully at the transition between subject and background. There's some light fall off wide open, which disappears at f/4, but I defy you to find it in attached sample photos. :) The lens itself balances very well with the K1 II body, while quick shift focus add a nice subtle touch at close focus distances. Autofocus does rotate the focus ring, which was a bit unsettling in the beginning, before adjusting my resting hand position accordingly. Autofocus speed is very fast and precise - finally the limiteds design met the modern technology. And to keep the focus ;) I shall not dwell on the feeling of holding an amazing piece of art. This is Pentax at its best!
Pretty unique image look
Interesting lens that I will probably use quite a bit. I already did some testing in the field and using it wide open at 2.4 gives you the best image look. By 5.6 it seems to lose the magic and just performs as an excellent wide-angle lens without the Pentax limited image look. At 2.4 vignetting is pretty severe but it does add to the special image quality - the center pops out while background is defocused enough to further pull attention to the subject in the center. Distortion and chromatic aberrations are minimal and didn't require correction in Adobe Lightroom - I played with applying Nikon 20mm correction, but I don't think it's needed. Focusing is good, especially compared to the legacy 20 mm/2.8. Images seemed somewhat overexposed, may need -0.3 to -0.6 in-body exposure compensation with Pentax K1 body, at least for my conditions. Overall, it's not as good as 31mm Limited - I feel it's easier to achieve contrasty and saturated look with 31mm, but good enough to use 50:50 with 31mm when I need wider field of view and distinctive look of 21mm limited at 2.4
byebye Zeiss
This outstanding lens made me finally give up on the Zeiss Distagon T* 21mm 2.8 (manual focus) i had for the last couple of years, and also the Sigma EX DG 20mm 1.8. It's amazing not only for wide angle street pics or landscapes, but also wide angled portraits. Actually it's a very versatile wide angle fixed lens. Portability, bright, design, AF, size, marvelous image quality, one of the best lenses ever from Pentax. I didn't do a lab test on it, but i won't hesitate using it in situations where the marvelous couple 645Z 25mm F.4 becomes too heavy to carry (street pics, cityscapes or others).
