Held horizontally, the Wave Bead Drum responds directly to your movements, letting you shape sounds that range from gentle, tranquil wave motion to intense, crashing surf. Gradual tilting produces a soft, lapping effect, while quicker motion intensifies the sound. The internal plastic and metal beads can be rolled against either the PET head for a brighter timbre or the goatskin head for a warmer, mellower tone, offering further control over the character of each sound.

Adjustable Bead Mixture for Custom Tone

A plug on the frame allows you to easily adjust the internal bead mixture. Changing the balance between plastic and metal beads alters the texture of the wave sound, with a higher ratio of plastic beads delivering a smoother, more fluid effect. This flexibility makes it easy to tailor the instrument to meditation, ambient soundscapes, or rhythmic performance.

Expressive Percussion Performance

When held vertically, the Wave Bead Drum transforms into a multi-voice percussion instrument. Striking the center of the heads produces resonant tones similar to a bass drum or tom-tom, while playing closer to the edge adds a snare-like sizzle. Shaking the drum or bouncing the frame introduces shaker- and cabasa-style textures, allowing a single player to create layered, dynamic rhythms.
