Dedicated to the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens, the HB-84 Lens Hood helps to minimize flare by deflecting stray light from entering the lens. The hood also provides additional protection to the lens from accidental impacts, bumps, or scratching. It is offered here as a spare or replacement for the one originally included with the lens.

True Nikon
I lost my previous hood and ordered a Nikon replacement. It arrived quickly and was a genuine Nikon part.
OEM hood
Original cracked in a tumble from the Jeep seat to the floor board. No damage to the lens so provided some protection. Suggest you consider the Heliopan Rubber Lens Hood.
Very flimsy
Took a slight blow to crack but lens was fine so I guess it did its job. Cost for thin plastic hood is excessive in my opinion.
Worked well and protected lens
Lens and body disconnected from tripod and falling over 5 feet, hit the deck of a dock. Lens hood broke into 2 large pieces, but both camera body and 500PF survived apparently undamaged. Even the front filter survived, and it costs more than the hood, so, at some level, it served me well. Another will be on order soon.
