MultiCart R18RT Reviews
MEGA BEEFY
This thing is robust. It's also super simple to assemble, as everything is ready to go minus putting the wheels on.
Bigger and better
I've had the next smaller model with the small solid front wheels for several years.? I've been amazed at how easy it is to get all my camera and lighting gear in and out of locations.? The R18RT is just slightly longer and wider, and the large front castors make it easier to roll on grass, gravel or thick carpet.? They are quiet on brick or tile floors.? And the cart holds even more weight without straining.? ?Folded up, it still fits in my van.? Great all around.
Crew loves? it
Worked great, although we had to drill a misaligned hole to get the wheel secured.
Great Cart!
We occasionally have a gig where we have little time to set up. We found that our best approach after arriving at the gig is to set up several carts with everything we need ready to go as soon as we have access to the location. Then, in one go, we move everything into the location with our three carts. The R18RT is our largest cart and carry's our two JBL EON 618S subs and two EON 615 PA speakers plus a couple of our monitor speakers on top of that.? The cart is great. It is stable when we move it and easily supports the weight. It is surprisingly easy to maneuver with the large wheels. As per the instructions, we apply some grease to the axles when mounting the wheels to make sure they remain as easy to roll as when we first got the cart.? We have a few of the accessories such as the deck and GripnGraf jumbo bag for stands and stuff. They work great. We don't really need the deck--could get by without it--but we wanted to distribute the weight of the heavy subs over the larger surface area of the deck instead of the relatively narrow beams to avoid any damage to the subs. I think we're being a bit paranoid, but they are expensive and we're happy with the result. Overall, we're really happy with this cart as well as the R12RT and the R6RT carts we have. Highly recommended.
One of the best investments we've made!
Save your back and get one of these to transport your equipment. Great product!
Like a Ramones song, simple but it rocks
Does your back hurt? I know where you're coming from. My back was killing me. I did not feel like a photographer. I felt like a moving man who took photos on occasion. I set out to find a cart that would cure what ailed me. The candidates: Magliner, Innovative, Film Tools, and RockNRoller. The Magliner was going to be about $1500 delivered with shelves, same goes with the Film Tools. The Innovative is the most beautiful cart in the history of wheeled devices but it was going to be $3500 or so. So that was out of the question. I approached the RocknRoller with a mix of caution and apprehension. It was only $300. How good could it be? Very good. It gets the job done, folds down, and it has saved my back. I've used it to shoot a couple of jobs and it has paid for itself. The way I see it, I could pay an assistant to break my equipment or I could get a cart and postpone that unfortunate decision. The cart is useful, easy to assemble, and does what it says it will. The handles are a bit flimsy and you should definitely grease the casters. After that you are good to go. I looked into the shelf you can buy from RocknRoller and people flame it to high heaven. I built my own from scrap for $6 and am very happy with it. To hold up the shelf, I bought smooth, non-threaded rod at the hardware store. This makes the cart fold almost flat and is easy to build. If you have access to a welder, there are some sweet mods you can make that will be beefier. Do a google search on RocknRoller modifications and you will see there are plenty. If you make a shelf you cannot fit the Grip Bag that lots of people rave about, so there is that. But you can shoot tethered with your mac on the shelf and that is pretty sweet. Note: if you use the pre-drilled holes in the RocknRoller for the rods that hold the shelf, the shelf is about .5 higher at one end than the other. You can't tell.
High rolling resistance
I like everything about the cart, especially the add on bag that goes on the upright for vertical hauling of long gear(stands, tripods, etc.). We like the way it folds up and is easy to take with us on location shoots, which we do a lot of. We are also able to haul a lot of heavy equipment on it. The big draw back and the reason for 3 stars, is the wheels. The axle should be a solid core bar to prevent it from bending over time, and the bearings are not metal(not sure of material), resulting in way too much rolling resistance, especially with more weight(we are not exceeding weight rating). I am probably going to replace the wheels with a third party no flat wheel from somewhere locally with metal bearings. Build quality could also be a little better overall.
Shakes!
This cart shakes so badly! Even when I have 200-300lbs of equipment on it, the caster wheels shake like an old shopping cart. I've had this cart for 2 months, and its been doing this since day one... I am not a fan.
