Column tweaked after mounting Aputure Nova p300c
Just received the Matthews Junior Boom today. A little disappointed. It came with box all torn up and one of the handles exposed. The rubber on the bottom of the weight was shifted over and glue was smeared and had to clean that up. Looks like this had been dropped. So, we set it up on our Matthews wind up stand and stuck a Nova p300c on it. Extended the column out about 3/4 and noticed there was a slight bowing in the arm. The Nova p300c without controller on it weighs 22.82 lb. This arm is supposed to support 25LB fully extended. Well, when we tried to close back down the arm it is now supper stiff and have to use a lot of force. I do not think this arm should be rated at 25LB. For $424.00 I expected better. I will keep it and use it for my other lights but really wanted it to get my Nova boomed out. Just really tuff trying to collapse the column back in. I also read a review on here that someone else had the same problem.

HEAVY DUTY
Highest quality and extremely strong.
Junior boom is rock solid
I own 8 of these across two studios. While big and heavy (you will want to use them with a crank stand) they are rock solid and the right tool for large scrims or light instruments that need to be high and far away. Its extremely well built as you would expect. I have not found any other brand that does this job as well as this one does.
well made to last a lifetime
perfect to mount a dslr for overhead shots

I had been struggling with getting a tall light stand and a 5' octo soft box up really high. 15' high. In my quest to figure this out I bought a series of great quality rolling stands from matthews. I also gradually bought about every boom arm and then this one. I thought it would be the end all. One day after using it (with a profoto B1 wireless head and a 5' octobox) two of the rods are bent and now it won't collapse. I don't THINK this is overweighted at full extension. Like Matthews stuff---love it actually. Wasn't thrilled w this at all.
Very Heavy!!!
This Boom Arm by Matthews is very heavy duty. I correctly understood the length of it, but I underestimated the weight of it. It weights 41 lbs, which is fine on my shoulder, but a lot of weight to mount on a normal stand. I normally use Matthews Senior stands which have a combo head on them, but for this Boom Arm I am going to buy a wind-up stand.
