Perfect Solution
This microphone mount has several uses. Obviously it�s intended use as a microphone mount for various stereo mic configurations but it�s also the perfect solution for mounting wireless microphone or wireless PL antennas. It�s very well made and will serve me well for whatever need I task it with.
Works beautifully!
Works beautifully with a lighting-style stand as a versatile multi-mic mount. You'll need 3/8-16 to 5/8-27 adapters for most microphone mounts, but they are readily available (if not supplied with the mic).
Warning: does not fit on regular microphone stands!
I bought this AB bar because I thought I could mount it on a regular microphone stand. However, this microphone holder only works with photography stands. I have no experience with video gear, but I ended up buying a Manfrotto light stand to go with my mic bar.? I was going to return the mic bar, but ugh I rather not pay more shipping fees to refund my goods. I had already bought a K&M AB-bar?and had to return the item because the mic screws did not fit my holders. Still, if this solution works. It would still be cheaper than forking out money for DPA or Scheops mic bars, but I guess you get what you pay for. -.- I plan on using this gear with my Beyerdynamic MC 910 omni-mics and Line Audio CM3 mics to record classical piano.
Solid and versatile
When paired with a u-type flash bracket this stereo bar allows all sorts of mic techniques. The flash bracket on a quality mic stand gives you anything from Blumlien to mid-side. It is large, so may it be overkill in some other placements i.e. Xy ortf. My favorite use is 10ft up on a tall light stand for acoustic concert/recital recording.
Fantastic for Mics!
I do a lot of location recording and end up using aluminum light stands for mic stands to save weight and space (especially the Manfrotto Alu Minis). This bar is unthreaded and fits great on all of Manfrotto's 5/8-stud light stands and just about any other light stand on the market, but won't work on most typical 5/8 threaded mic stands, so keep that in mind. It's just about 65 cm across so you can get a perfect wide Faulkner setup or simple AB60 easily. You can also use the screw-in studs essentially as quick-releases with your mic clips premounted, and simply slot them in and tighten. It's then easy to swivel the clips by slightly loosening, or rotate them to hang below the stand. In general this works best if you're using European-style hardware (3/8) like Rycote mic clips, certain K&M bars, etc. Only complaint is that the knobs do protrude a bit so it's hard to fit in a small bag, but that's minor. On the plus side, those same knobs let you cable manage shockingly effectively. See picture for a modified Wide Faulkner array used in solo cello recording incl. cable management using the knobs.
Multiple Use Light Stand Adapter
This was originally designed and marketed as a triple light stand adapter. Manfrotto changed the name after many audio folks started using them on set for antenna and microphone holders. I use one for baffled AB stereo with Cyclones. The center post works perfectly to hold the simulated head or disk. It's heavy and overkill for just two mics without zeps, but it's sturdy when you need it. there's a small hole on either end of the tube. Cover it if you're out in the wind, it will whistle like a flute.
