The MagMod Starter Flash Kit 2 includes the two most essential modifiers of the MagMod system. The kit features the MagGrid 2 grid and MagSphere 2 dome. The third item is the MagGrip 2 adapter, which secures over your flash head and provides a magnetic base for easily swapping in the other two modifiers. The adapter is optimized for round-head flashes and is suitable for standard ones as well.
The MagGrip 2 is the adapter that's used to attach many of the MagMod modifiers to hot shoe flashes. Made of silicone rubber, it stretches and secures over the flash head and provides a magnetic based for attaching modifiers such as the MagGrid, MagBounce, and many others. This v2 version is especially designed for round-head flashes but is suitable for standard ones as well. It's more oval than the original version in order to better fit round-head flashes. It's also a bit more compact. The built-in magnets offer strong magnetic attachment points and allow you to swap modifiers on the fly. The silicone rubber material retains 99% of its elasticity over time, even after long, repeated use.
The MagMod MagGrid 2 is a honeycomb grid compatible with most hot-shoe flashes. It changes the beam angle of your flash to a more concentrated 40°, and it eliminates unwanted light spill, allowing you to capture cleaner and more consistent images. Multiple units can be stacked together to further tighten the beam angle. You can also stack a MagGrid 2 with a MagSphere 2 to get both diffused and pinpoint-controlled light. The MagGrid 2 is made of silicone rubber, and this ensures that the grid cells will be less prone to chips and cracks.
The MagGrid 2 requires a MagGrip or MagGrip 2 accessory, sold separately, in order to attach to the flash. The optional MagGrip, made of silicone, stretches to secure over the flash head, and this grid then magnetically attaches to the MagGrip. The optional MagGrip 2 has a round design optimized for round head flashes but fits standard-style flashes as well.
The MagMod MagSphere 2 is designed to attach to your hot shoe flash magnetically via an optional MagGrip 2 adapter. It shapes your flash into a soft, omni-directional bare-bulb light source that works as an on-camera diffuser or small bounce card. This v2 release of the MagSphere is 40% lighter than the original version and allows for more efficient use.
The required MagGrip 2 adapter is especially optimized for round-head flashes but is compatible with standard ones as well. The adapter stretches and secures over the flash head, and provides a magnetic base for quickly attaching and removing the MagSphere on the fly. The MagSphere 2 is made from durable silicone that retains 99% of its elasticity over time, even after long, repeated use.

Not used this item before with a flash, but glad it was recommended by BH staff. Noticed a huge difference during my shoots. Store with my godox flash and attached by magnet.

It's a great lightweight lighting modifier, adjusting to different types of flashes with great ease, ideal for event photography.
Disappointing Fit
Though most of my strobe work on location is done using portable strobes like the Elinchrom ELB500 and One, I decided to get a modifier for my Speedlites for the rare times I end up using them. Though the quality of light from the MagSphere 2 is excellent (and the MagBounce is about the same quality as the less expensive FlashBender), I'm disappointed with the fit. There are significant gaps at the base of these modifiers on my Canon Speedlite. I was expecting (perhaps unrealistically?) a more seamless fit to squeeze the most efficiency out of these small lights. I'll need to try them out more and eventually on a shoot to make a final judgement, but as of now I can say I'm a bit underwhelmed by the fit quality.
diffuses light but difficult to install
The new version of the Magmod system is lighter in weight and the magsphere diffuses light well. However the new design of the maggrip2 is now intended to accommodate small round flashes and that makes it extremely difficult to but it onto large rectangular flashes such as the Godox V860iii. I finally managed to do it after watching their video but it was difficult. Note that there is no instruction sheet included in the package of the Starter Flash Kit 2.

Here's the thing: A flash as a regular flash is pretty boring. You can bounce it off walls. You can use it direct. You can use the fill card. That pretty much sums it up. This kit opens up a WHOLE world of possibilities from being able to soften the light with the sphere and control the spill of the light with the grid. It changes the character and quality of a simple and often inexpensive speedlight. I never leave home without these three things (plus the magshoe2). It'll separate you from all of the other photographers that are just shooting natural light only. It's also wildly fun experimenting with the light! They're high quality products that are so much more convenient than the cheaper and crappier alternatives. Highly highly highly recommend.
Works perfectly
I was slightly hesitant based on some reviews of trying to get this stretched and fit on my godox v860iii. Lots of people and reviews saying this was the difficult part. If you have this flash don't be put off, this fits over easily. The magnets are great, and being able to use this product is what's worth the money for me. Yes you can go for cheaper options, and get very similar results. It's the quick changing and access that makes this product so great.
