Lexar LRW550U-RNBNU Reviews
Pleased with the Quality and performance
I am pleased. This is a solid and well constructed reader. No issue with heat and performs well.
Reviewed it 5-stars before, have to change my tune now...
This reader showed a lot of promise, being sturdily built and in that doesn't heat cards up to lava-hot temperatures. However, after two short months, it is no longer mounting cards to my computers. I've tried different cables, different cards, etc. The reader senses the card and flips the status light to blue, but neither of my computers show anything mounted. This could be due to the fact that the spring lock doesn't seem to be holding cards in any longer, and releases them if the reader is moved or tapped. I can no longer recommend this product due to its extremely short lifespan. If Lexar sees this and wants to swap this out with another, I'll give it a another go. Otherwise, I can't stand behind a failed product.
Lexar vs ProGrade CF Express Type B Reader
I got the Lexar Professional CF Express Type B Reader after not being happy with the ProGrade CF Express Type B reader. The Lexar gets mildly warm, the ProGrade gets extremely hot. The Lexar is faster than the ProGrade. I use a USB-c to USB-c cord. The Lexar does not have an SD slot like the ProGrade. I have a Lexar USB 3.0 reader for SD and my old CF cards. I highly recommend the Lexar Professional CF Express Type B Reader. I suggest avoiding the ProGrade reader
Very happy with this reader.
It's heavier than expected but that's a good thing. It sits firmly when inserting a card. Function is perfect and unlike the Sony reader, it doesn't heat cards up to where they're uncomfortable to hold. Transfer speed is every bit as fast as any other. Worth the money 100%.
Finally - a fast CFExpress reader!
Been using readers by 2 other brands. Both are slow readers. When I saw this Lexar announced, I decided to give it a try and wow wow wow...this thing transfer the Z6II RAW files quickly. It is well made and has a non-slip material underneath to hold the reader steady. CFExpress card inserts and ejects smoothly. USB cable is not flimsy.
Nice design, usb-c + usb-a
I haven't used this for long, but so far I like it better than my previous 3.1 Lexar reader (both were bundled deals that came with CFExpress cards). It's theoretically as fast as the card can handle (1700MB/s), but I haven't tested it. This is a heftier design, attractive, feels nice in the hand, maybe less portable than the usb 3.1 reader, but will be nicer at home on the desk. I'll probably use the other one when traveling because it's light and small. It comes with a nice little cable that has both usb-c and usb-a (pull off the end to expose the usb-c).
ProGrade is faster for writes
Write speed is 10 MB/s slower with the Lexar as compared to the ProGrade CFexpress card reader. The ProGrade also reads SD type cards and it has a magnetic base which is great for attaching it to the side of a tower PC or workstation.
Functionally Useless
Worked well for a few weeks. Is now useless. The card can't be read unless it is held in the card for 2 seconds. Even when it does read, it takes seconds to transfer ONE file.
