Description
Leica APO-Summicron-M 75mm f/2 ASPH. Overview
Distinguished by its optically refined design, the black APO-Summicron-M 75mm f/2 ASPH. from Leica is a bright portrait-length lens for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Its apochromatic designation is a result of the use of anomalous partial dispersion glasses to virtually eliminate color fringing and chromatic aberrations, as well as an aspherical element made from high refractive index glass to further control spherical aberrations for notable sharpness and clarity. The lens also employs a rear floating element to maintain image quality throughout the focusing range, even at the minimum focusing distance of 2.3'. Additionally, the compact lens also features a built-in extendable lens hood to shield the front element and the front is threaded to accept 49mm screw-on filters.

Leica APO-Summicron-M 75mm f/2 ASPH. Reviews
Leica APO-Summicron-M 75 f/2 ASPH
I love using this lens for people & it is fast enough to blur backgrounds. At f5.6-f/8 for street & landscape photography.
Works fine without finger grip
Typical nice M lens image look. A bit worried about convenience since it does not come with finger grip. But it works fine.
Great lens
Wonderful lens; sharp pictures and smooth bohkea.
A Supplemental Review to my Previous Posting
I previously wrote a longer review of this lens but I thought I would add some additional information. 1. Manual focusing with this lens is 100% accurate with live-view focus peaking. I find it much more difficult when using the traditional viewfinder. 2. The depth of field of this lens is less forgiving than a 35mm or 50mm prime (of course) -- so this takes some practice to learn the strengths of this lens especially when used at wide apertures. 3. Again, it is up to you to decide whether or not this lens is worth the $$$. I used to shoot a Canon DSLR with a Canon 100mm F2.8 prime, and that was a very impressive lens -- for about 20% the cost of the Leica. If you enjoy shooting with Leica and have the budget, I strongly recommend this lens.
A technological and artistic marvel
In the past few years, I have owned 3 different 75mm focal lengths for my Leicas (I shoot both film and digital). #1. I tried a Voigtlander 75mm 2.5 Heliar (not bad for the money) but a little too soft wide open for my taste #2. Ordered a Leica Summarit-M 75mm 2.5 (very nice lens, good product overall) #3. Finally, the Leica APO 75mm F2 I was fortunate to find one available (used) for a reasonable price so the purchase didn't hurt my bank account too much. This lens is extremely well built and oozes German quality. It is somewhat heavy and barely balances on my M240 body. The ergonomics are decent, as long as you're used to shooting manually. It renders (as has been mentioned by other reviewers) in an almost clinical way -- things are so incredibly sharp, it's almost freaky. Stopping down past F5.6 and you get images that are extremely detailed. Wide-open (around F2.8) the lens has a beautiful bokeh, but I use live-view to try to nail these types of focus points -- my analog rangefinder just isn't accurate enough. The rendered image is flat corner to corner, I can't find any distortion at any F-stop. Colours and contrasts levels are striking. This lens seems to capture much more visual information than the Summarit. Flaring hasn't been an issue, the hood compensates for it. As others have mentioned this would be a great portraiture lens, but it also has uses in street and nature photography. I was worried that the 75mm focal length would feel odd since I'm mostly a 35/50 shooter, but the extra bit of reach provided by the 75mm has come in handy many times. My only gripe: this lens is so expensive, I feel have to baby it when I leave the house for shooting. I worry I might scratch or drop it, so I handle it very carefully. The anodized aluminum barrel seems to show wear or scratch easily, so I keep it in the factory pouch as much as possible. If you're looking for a good mid-range tele to add to your M-set up, you really can't go wrong with this lens. It's marvelous.
Great lens - be aware of flare
I simply love this lens, it is small, perfect for many applications. The only drawback is the flare which can be rather prominent. However, I got used to it so whenever I end up in a situation like this I put my hand on the hood and extend it this way. Few shots were missed due to this though.
Incredible Lens
I favor 75mm over 90mm on the M10, as I find the 90mm difficult to nail focus at wide apertures. I also find the focal length to give a balance of dimensionality and compression for portraiture.
Great match to the M10 series
My first time to try 75mm. In many cases I think its no problem to focus with rang finder rather than EVF. Its a great balance. Image quality is outstanding.
