The Kolari Vision Swirl Bokeh 1x Drop-In Filter is compatible with the EF to EOS R drop-in filter adapter from Kolari or Canon. The swirl bokeh filter is capable of producing dreamy, blurred backgrounds for images where you want the subject to fully stand out from the background.

Traditionally, the "swirl" bokeh effect was usually the result of a defect and poor focusing on a specific lens, but modern professional lenses are generally not affected by such defects and don't produce the "swirl" bokeh effect. So, one way of achieving this effect is by purchasing certain older, vintage lenses. Or you can get this drop-in filter (and the required EF to EOS R drop-in filter adapter). The filter is recommended for use on portrait lenses. (Focal lengths under 35mm will require extremely close focus distance.)

This 1x version of the filter produces a strong swirly bokeh effect (while the optional 2x version produces a slightly more dramatic effect). The 1x version works best at 1 to 4' distance from your subject. (The optional 2x version works best at 1 to 2' distance.) The effect can vary depending on the lens used and also the distance between your camera and your subject. The frame of the filter is aluminum, and the optics are glass with AR/AS coatings for increased transmission, reduced reflections, and easy cleaning. The filter has a wide grip and offers a lanyard attachment point for your convenience. Its thickness-matched to minimize focus shift.
