Kahayan VINTAGE 80 SERIES MIX BUSS Overview
Audio professionals looking for that classic Neve sound will appreciate the Kahayan Vintage 80 Series Stereo Mix Bus Processor, a stereo processor designed to be inserted on a stereo bus that imparts the characteristics of a Neve 80-series mixing console with a war, fat, rich sound and a highly detailed midrange.
The processor offers a drive control for harmonic saturation, an output knob to compensate for the Drive signal, and a Blend control for dry/wet control and parallel processing. The transformer can be bypassed via front-panel button, resulting in a clean smooth sound.
Setup and Basic Aspects
- Bypass: Switch on or bypass the mix-bus processor. When the LED is on, the unit is active
- Drive: Controls harmonic distortion: it sounds like aggressively hitting a console mix bus. High settings increase grit and drive. Lower settings tend to open up the dynamics. Begin with extreme settings, so you can really hear the effect (distortion)
- Output: Fader to compensate the output level as you adjust the drive control
- Iron Bypass: Output transformer bypass switch. This output transformer is part of this classic midrange sound, when you bypass it you have a smooth and more dynamic sound, so you have a new sound option. When the LED is on, the transformer is out of the signal path
- Blend: The dry/wet blend control determines the balance between the original and the processed signal. The range is from 0% (dry, unprocessed) to 100% (wet, processed signal only). And it is located in the signal path after the drive and output control.
- VU Meter: Works like a classic VU-meter that you can find in the consoles, but it is positioned after drive control and gives a view of the saturation level. The 0 VU is calibrated in a 1% THD position, over that level, the saturation increases
