Offering a soft wrap-around quality thanks to its long, narrow form factor and 192 bright LEDs, the 17" long Soft Strip LED Light from Genaray is a versatile fixture with features that are easy to use in the studio or on location. The light has a continuously adjustable bi-color temperature range from 3000 to 5600K, with a high CRI/TLCI rating of 96.4/98, an indicator of precise color rendering. The SSL-MINI-B features an all-digital dimmer for single digit adjustment control throughout the dimming range from 100% all the way down to 0%. Other dimmers without this functionality can exhibit abrupt falloff below 10%, greatly limiting their dynamic range.
The SSL-MINI-B runs barely warm to the touch, allowing you to work close to the subject without causing discomfort or hot light hazards. The power-saving light produces an output of 849 lux at 3' while consuming just 36W of power, helping you keep the temperature of your set and your operational costs down.
The long strip fixture can be used vertically or horizontally for dramatic results. In vertical orientation, the SSL-MINI-B is ideal for use as a sidelight or for dramatic lighting. It also creates long, elegant reflections when shooting products. In horizontal mode, the light has a wrap-around quality with appealing falloff at the top and bottom of the frame. Another use is overhead as a hair light.
The SSL-MINI-B has a beam angle coverage of 75 degrees, which can be modified and controlled by its two-way barndoors. The fixture comes with a multi-voltage adapter that makes it ready for world use, but it can also run on optional NP-F batteries when AC power is unavailable. A soft carrying case is included to store and transport the light.

Nice light
I like this light it works good but the AC plug in is right over the switch and it's very hard to turn on and off, very poor design, but still a nice light
Solid build; easy to position & control
This light has stepped in to become my new fill light for interviews and other similar lighting setups when I'm working close to a subject. There are a few things I particularly like about it: It's silent (no fan), the brightness goes all the way down to 1% for total control, the ballhead connection to the light stand is metal and seems very solid, and of course it's nice to have the barndoors, which are solid too. It's easy to rotate the light from vertical to horizontal for various uses. Controls are also easy to use, light quality is diffuse and good at different color temperatures, and it comes with a nice padded case. Good light. No complaints.
Fantastic, bright, soft light.
This is my third light from this family of lights by Genaray. They're fantastic. I have the 50" Bi-color version, the 8x36" Bi-color version and now this smaller "mini" version. I love this smaller version and it is such a perfect complement to the other 2, but it is also great on its own. It gives off a consistent soft light and will be useful in many different situations. To give a good example of the amount of light this provides and its "softness", I uploaded a picture of it lighting a green screen. You can really see the consistency of the spread of light and how bright it is. I plan on using this a lot as a backlight. It provides enough light to be a key light in most situations or fill light, but I love the idea of it as a backlight. The small size and weight make it easy to attach to an arm. Or, instead of having it directly behind the subject, it can be placed just off center, behind a subject as a kicker light. The dimmer is smooth and responsive, which is nice when you want to dial in the intensity just right. Having the bi-color option makes this light very versatile and adaptive to the ambient light already in the room. I also have the Genaray SSL-RC wireless remote control for this family of lights, so adjusting the color temperature and dimming capability from the remote is very handy. I highly recommend this accessory as it makes things really easy. I'm a big fan of the lollipop mount of this light. It attaches securely and allows you to use the light vertically or horizontally which is fantastic. The lollipop mount also has 2 places to mount on a stand (or lighting grid). Either from the bottom or the side, again adding to the flexibility when positioning the light, because now you can light straight down which is perfect for a soft overhead light on tabletop shoots, or whatever. The light has an aluminum housing and the build quality is nice and solid. Barn doors are made of metal and hold their position very well. This light will run on ac power or on two of the Sony NP-F type batteries, again making the light very versatile. I have a bunch of those batteries already, and they are very affordable, so I love that. Another thing I really love about this light is it comes with its own well-made and padded case. Being able to safely store a light and its accessories will add years to any light. This prevents any wear and tear or damage when going on location which is important and will save you money in the long run. The perfect addition to the Genaray SSL Family
I have almost the entire line of Genaray SSL series, and I have been using the SSL-50 Daylight (my first one) for as long as 2 years for productions of Corporate interviews, B roll, background accents and occasionally for music video, in addition to the SSL-836B (8X36) and the SSL-50B. I'm going to utilize the SSL-MiniB mostly for hair light, which is perfect. It gives a soft and pleasant light when I don't want hard light for hair. The SSL Mini-B size provides exactly what I want for that purpose since the size and length is right, plus the barn doors help me control the light exactly where I want it to illuminate. You can certainly use the SSL-MiniB as a keylight if that's the only one you have available. It will provide a soft and pleasant light. For being a smaller and yet soft light, as a key light interview, if you bring it as close as possible to the subject, for more artistic lighting control, instead of the usual big light source softbox, it can actually provide an interesting look, with specific areas of face or body that you want lit, and even some spots for a different mood and look with the barn doors, you can even accentuate that effect further, yet, with a soft light. You can't see the LEDs, thanks to its heavy diffuser plate. I really like the mini version of the SSL series. It's just what was missing! It's very portable, fast to setup as it doesn't require any ballast. Simply Install the two required (not included) Sony NPF batteries, and turn it on. For being so lightweight, about 3 lbs, it is the simplest loads you could have on a Boom. The lollipop mount allows you to aim the light at any position, vertical, horizontal or angled. Very pleased. Awesome Lighting Kit for the price!
C-Stands are great. I just wished it included the extension arm. Saddle sand bags are good enough. Genaray BiColor LED lights are very good. I wished they could come with a bit more professional finishing -- you can tell they aren't like KinoFlo or something like that. But they work great, aren't that heavy. And the light is VERY GOOD!
Perfect Lighting
During a visit at in 2019, staff were showcasing this set-up on site. It intrigued me for a long time. Fast forward to 2020, I pulled the trigger and purchased this set-up, knowing the possibility to use it was nil to none in the short term. - Well, I finally opened a small studio in 2021 and couldn't wait to use this set-up. I was not disappointed. Easy to set up with C-Stands. Manually set-up lighting parameters for a practice session and was pleased and impressed. However, one of the lights Dimmer Control Box with Battery Mount came defective and must be replace as soon as possible. Beyond that, wonderful lights.

Good light. So far I have only used it in the studio but so far this is great. Bright light, compact, and was able to use on autopole.
