CineStill Film BWXX 120 Overview
This BWXX Black and White Negative Film from CineStill Film is a classic panchromatic film for both indoor and outdoor use. Akin to the legendary Kodak Plus-X and Tri-X emulsions, it is an excellent choice if you're looking for a classic cinematic look with top-level performance and versatility in a variety of conditions. It has a fine-grain structure with high sharpness as well as a wide exposure latitude to make it a useful film for most environments. The film has a variable base sensitivity of ISO 250 under daylight conditions and ISO 200 under tungsten lighting conditions. Additionally, it can be rated up to ISO 1600 with the appropriate processing compensation.

CineStill Film BWXX 120 Reviews
Beautiful, tones and nice grain. My favorite BW film.
This has beautiful, rich tones and nice grain. It's my favorite BW film. I was tempted to rate it poorly so no one else would buy it because I like it so much. ;-) (kidding). It's worth a try if you like the look of it from any of the samples seen here, on the vendor's website, or other photo sharing sites.
Full Range of Tones, Nice Grain
This film yielded a rich range of tones with lovely grain. It is really quite beautiful. On drying, however, the negatives exhibited a signifcant curl, which made them quite challenging to work with. The degree of curl was worse than any other film I've used. I don't know if the 35mm would be any better. In my hybrid workflow, I develop the film and then scan the negatives to produce finished images. I had to scan each frame of the cinestill film individually, employing a variety of devices to hold the film flat in the negative holder, all the while trying not to damage the negatives. I've shot multiple rolls of this film, each resulting in the same curl. The attached image shows the profile view of the cinestill negatives in a negative sleeve, resting on my light table. For comparison, the cinestill negatives are laying on top of a sleeve holding a roll of Ilford Delta 100 negatives, which lies perfectly flat against the table. These two rolls were developed and dried at the same time in exactly the same conditions. The difference is quite dramatic. The cinestill film is lovely, and I'll use it again. It's (just barely) worth the extra trouble.
So cool!
Another gift for my photog daughter. So excited to see the capabilities of this film, it's certain to be amazing. Thank you.
