Designed specifically for use with their StarSense AutoAlign System and compatible motorized mounts, Celestron's StarSense Hand Controller connects to and is powered by the mount via a coiled cord. Once connected, it puts a 45,000+ object database in the palm of your hand and helps you to explore near and deep-sky celestial subjects from the Moon and planets; to galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters. If you're not sure what is available overhead, simply use the Tour Mode and the controller will show you the best objects based on your current location, date, and time.
To get you observing faster the controller works with the StarSense system to automatically align your scope with little input from the user, while the 3 rates ensure accurate tracking all night with little correction required. Backlash compensation and Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC) help to increase the smoothness, precision, and accuracy of tracking. Its 4-line/18-character LCD screen gives you access to the intuitive menu-driven user-interface for fast navigation of the sub-menus while showing you all information in red to preserve night-adjusted vision. Variable brightness levels for the screen and button backlight ensure comfortable use.
- Intuitive menu-driven user interface
- Nine slew speeds: 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 0.3°/sec, 1.0°/sec, 2°/sec, 4°/sec

- Anti-backlash correction: Train-out intrinsic play in gears for smoother movement and tracking

Celestron StarSense Reviews
Good item and arrived on time
It was a good purchase. It arrived on time and was in mint condition!
Replacement for original that went bad
I purchased a replacement HC for my Star Sense unit after the original HC suddenly went bad. It had worked well and as advertised for 15 months, and I was very pleased with Star Sense. Suddenly, while taking a long exposure photo the guide star rapidly went off screen. Reacquiring the guide star I tried again, and as soon as autoguide was activated the guide star was rapidly forced off screen. Not suspecting the HC to be at fault I replaced the mount motor control board, disconnected the Star Sense camera from the mount, and used a completely different (Orion) autoguider, replaced connecting cables, but the problem persisted. Also,my old original CGEM HC that came with the mount did NOT cause the problem. The new replacement Star Sense HC works fine, but the original Star Sense HC still forces the guide star off screen. There is no doubt the original Star Sense HC is faulty. Although it was still under the two year warranty, I opted to purchase the replacement HC, rather than bundling the whole unit up and sending back for service/replacement. I wonder how many other Star Sense HC units out there went bad as mine did, and was that the reason Celestron began offering the replacement HC? Having only used the new HC for a few weeks, I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. That is the only reason I am giving it a three star rating, rather than five. Hopefully, the replacement HC will be more reliable than the original. It remains to be seen. I would recommend this to a friend, but with a big caveat.
Test Hand Control
Hand control arrived within the announced deadline, well packaged. This hand control works well. It is intended to replace the hand control of my StarSense camera, in case of failure.
