Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS Overview
- Bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture maintains consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and suits working in low-light conditions as well as affords increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.
- Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
- The front and rear elements feature a protective Fluorine coating to resist fingerprints and smudges and to make cleaning significantly easier.
- One UD (Ultra-Low Dispersion) element and one Super UD element help to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing in order to provide greater clarity and color accuracy.
- Two aspherical elements are used to correct spherical aberrations and distortion for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.
- An Air Sphere Coating (ASC) has been applied to lens elements to reduce backlit flaring and ghosting for maintained light transmission and high contrast in strong lighting conditions.
-
Dual Nano USM system utilizes both a ring type USM and an STM mechanism to realize quick and accurate focusing.
- Smooth and nearly silent autofocus suits both photography and video applications.
- Full-time manual focus control available when working in the one-shot AF mode.
- An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by five stops.
- Enables working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
- Three discrete IS modes are available: standard single-shot mode, a panning-optimized mode, and a mode that only activates the Image Stabilizer during the exposure.
- Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.
- Focus Limiter switch allows selecting subject focal range.
- Auto Focus / Manual Focus selector switch
- image Stabilizer switch and Stabilizer Mode Selector switch.
- Weather-resistant design protects against dust and moisture to enable use in inclement conditions.
- L-Series level vibration shock resistance in the lens barrel, helping to maintain focus and settings even in turbulent situations.

Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS Reviews
Good but not great
This lens almost hit everything out of the park. Pros: Sharp, light & compact Cons: Focus ring is further out than before and you have to really crank your hand/wrist in order to hit 200mm. Before I could roll my thumb and I could go from 70-200mm and all is well. With this it literally takes me 2 or 3 tries before i hit 200mm. Not the end of the world but definitely not ideal. Normally we buy two of everything but with this flaw, we will not be buying another. Overall I like the lens, but the focus ring and having to crank your hand/thumb to hit 200 is annoying
MORE THAN I IMAGINED
I packed this with my EOS R and went to a festival around my town. I usually do videography work and I tested it handheld and the stabilization of the lens (remember, the R doesn't have it) is great. As I was using it handheld, I could change the settings to photo quickly and the image quality is beyond expectations. Buy it.
Amazing!
I've been adapting my EF 70-200 III for the last year and a half, and wow, I wish I'd upgraded sooner. So much lighter and more compact, a beautiful lens.
Great lens
This was my favorite lens on my 1DX mark 3, having received the R3 I can already see this will with me at all times. The smaller size is great.
Beautiful lens
Worth the price. Takes great photos. Especially when you're in proper focus lol
Another Amazing Lens from Canon!
This lens is super fast and produces amazing results! If you're wondering if it's worth it, the answer is yes. Skip Starbucks next year and add this to your bag. It's a better investment.
Sharpness in the dark
I photograph a football game and the sharpness I got out of this lens is amazing.
My Go-To Lens
My favorite lens ... always my go-to for portraits!
