B+W MRC Basic Circular Polarizer Overview
This 39mm MRC Basic Circular Polarizing Filter from B+W reduces reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. Light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing it to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage. Objects and people behind surfaces such as shop windows and car windshields become visible again, a fascinating image enhancement without the need for image processing in post production.
B+W MRC Basic filters are equipped with the exclusive Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) nano premium coating technology. This high-quality broadband coating is applied on both sides and enhances the optical imaging properties, allowing uniform and increased transmittance across the entire light spectrum to be achieved, with minimal physically induced remaining reflection. The nano all-round protection on the filter glass also ensures increased scratch resistance as well as extremely fast and easy cleaning for a long filter life.

B+W MRC Basic Circular Polarizer Reviews
First time with B W product
Really impressed with B W filters. Purchased this one and a 72mm circular polarizer. Immediately put them to use and found them easy to use with no perceivable color shift. Improved color fidelity and adjustment smoothness allowed for precise amounts of polarization. Packaging also keeps product safe from accidental scratches.
Useful for RF 16mm Canon Lens
Bought this as I wanted a polarizing filter for the Canon RF-16mm lens. Works well - no color shift or other impact on detail with only minor vignetting (which can be corrected in post with most but not all pictures - did not correct well when corners had very different highlights/shadows).
Works as expcted
Out of the box, I got some nice polarizing effect in my images. I'm using the filter on a 200-500mm zoom, and so far, I have seen no vignetting or objectionable color issues. I have not used it extensively yet, so I gave it a 4, just in case I find an issue. I have several B+W filters and they are all good. I'd compliment for their service, but that is getting redundant, and expected. They always seem to deliver, so, yes, 5 stars for them.
Nice Schnieder Filter
Looking forward to using this on sunny days
No Case Included
The B+W 86mm MRC Basic Circular Polarizing Filter is good and up to B+W standards but does not come with a hard case as has every other B+W filter I've purchased over many years. It comes in a flimsy cloth pouch that offers no protection. This appears to be a cheap, cost-saving measure on the part of B+W and is not up to their standards, nor what one expects when purchasing a premium item.
Works on Canon G1X Mark III
I worried before purchase that it might vignette on my Canon G1X Mark III, but it does not. Comes with a nice handy little cloth pouch, too.
A Must Have Filter for Outdoor
Really made my fall color pictures pop. Waterfalls look so much better with the surrounding reflections controlled. I got the size that fits my biggest lens and use reducing rings for the others.
New model from B + W
A recent addition to my lenses prompted the adding of a CPL filter. After using several other brands for years, I tried the B + W Kaesemann filters and loved them. I could easily see a difference over other brands, even some of supposed equal quality. This model has been discontinued so I had to take what was now offered. I contemplated the Master series CPL but thought the price too high so went with the alternate Base model which seemed pretty mush identical except for fewer coating levels. It works fine but I do not like it as much as the discontinued Kaesemann. There is a new feature on the new series, an "improved" adjusting ring. I do not like this at all. The filter sticks way out now and I never had any issues with the skinnier discontinued style. Additionally, this filter comes wrapped inside a cheap cloth pouch vs. the previous hard plastic case. This is a definite cheapening of the product. For the prices charged, this is inappropriate. The Master version apparently comes with the same cheap cloth bag. Conclusion: the filter works but it is no longer the. Premium product it previously was.
