AS8579-ASSM is a capacitive sensor that detects the change of capacity in different applications. The capacitive sensor measures the relative change of the impedance (RealCapSense, due to our measurement principle), dependent on the circuit. It can be used for human being detection as well as many other applications. The IC captures the current of a metal object and applies an algorithm to determine the capacitive and resistive information. This information can be read via SPI interface which can be also used for IC configuration. This high-precision performance sensor also supports a multitude of diagnostic features that meet standard functional safety requirements up to ASIL B. Application includes autonomous driving applications e.g.hands on steering wheel detection, detection of any human presence inside a vehicle, detection of any human presence exterior of vehicles e.g. automatic trunk opener.
