Offering the tonal character and directionality of the rare and prized RCA KU3A along with the consistency of meticulous manufacturing techniques, the USA-made AEA Ribbon Mics KU4 is a welcome solution for engineers, producers, and musicians in need of a rich, bright ribbon mic that can reject ambience and handle the challenge of close-miking an array of voices and instruments. Utilizing a 1.25" long ribbon constructed with NOS ribbon material from RCA, the KU4 delivers a blend of vintage ribbon smoothness with the top-end extension normally attributed to condensers.
Being a near-field ribbon, the KU4 provides reduced proximity effect to make it ideal for placement between one and 18 inches away from the source. Its supercardioid polar pattern exhibits directional pickup traits and strong rejection of off-axis sound such as bleed and room reflections. The 4.9' attached cable is terminated with a standard XLR 3-pin male connector for hookup to virtually any microphone preamp, no phantom power required. The integrated yoke-style cushion mount reduces bulkiness while ensuring ease of positioning in the studio.
