7artisans Photoelectric 35mm f/1.4 Reviews
Great value, super fast
This is a great little lens. Heavier than expected, but in a good way. Doesn't feel cheaply made and smooth controls. Would definitely buy again I like it that much. Great little lens.
Good lens
Using this on my Olympus OMD EMark II. Was looking for a prime lens to mimic shooting my film Olympus and it works perfectly for that. My own fault for not reading all the way through, but I do wish this had the option for auto/manual focus. This is a full manual use lens, but I still really do enjoy it.
Fantastic for this price.
I enjoy using manual lenses on my Fuji cameras, and this one's a bargain. At this price point, I can hardly ask for more. I had previously used the 7Artisans 35mm f0.95 lens, which I found too bulky and heavy, plus more than double the price. This lens fits what I needed just right. It feels solidly built without being overly heavy, considering it's metal and glass. It mounts and balances well on the X-T2, even better than the kit 18-55, which is mostly plastic. The focus ring is smooth and precise and I don't mind the aperture ring being clickless, since the aperture data isn't transmitted to the camera anyway. Image quality is better than expected for the price. At less than a sixth of the price of Fuji's own 35mm f1.4, I'd say it offers 90% of the image quality. Corner sharpness isn't as good wide-open and of course it doesn't Autofocus, but for non pixel-peepers like myself, this is hardly worth spending $500+ more. My one complaint is the hood doesn't clip or screw on, and simply falls off if turned upside down. I picked up a replacement separately. I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for an inexpensive, manual-focus standard lens. Using it has been great fun so far.
Super nice lens
I really like the focus ring, it's smooth without feeling like it's disconnected. I also don't mind the bokeh at 1.4 buys that's pretty subjective for the price it's not a bad lens to shoot with.
Disappointed, even for a lens at this price point
I was looking for an inexpensive, fast, full frame, low profile 35mm for travel and street photography. This seemed to fit the bill perfectly, but I was disappointed to learn that at high shutter speeds the lens shows inconsistent and VERY heavy vignettes - even beyond vignettes, where a whole portion of the frame will be shaded as if blocked by the shutter itself. I'm not sure how this lens could cause that problem - but the fast stop is somewhat useless in daylight when high shutters are unusable. Even without the problem of high shutters, the lens is what you might expect from something at this price point - it always has heavy vignettes and isn't sharp beyond the center of the frame. I thought it would be worth having for the cost, but even at this low price point this lens isn't worth it. Definitely wouldn't recommend! Better to spend a bit more for a fully functional option!
For the price can't be beat.
I use this on a Sony A7iii, I have no experience using it on half frames, but I would imagine there would be significant vignetting. Build is rock solid, very heavy, all steel and glass. Focus and aperture rings move as smoothly as I have ever used on a lens. Focus is super easy with the Sony manual focus assist (the little dancing dots) and very accurate. Biggest problem? Can't truly focus to infinity. Not a problem because that's not what I wanted it for. I wanted something that had more of a "film camera" look to it, as the native Sony lenses I have, while great lenses, are a little "a sterile". I have found that "film" filters and presets are often too over the top, needed something more natural. This lens is exactly what I needed. For $200, you really can't go wrong, as long as you understand what this lens is for. My only gripe is that I wish it was 50-75mm range, honestly 35mm is a bit wider than I really wanted, but I would never give this lens up. I have totally fallen in love with it.
Nice for the price
Good lens, fast and compact!!! Gives a film look on photos,
Worth it!!!
Great build, nice weight, at an excellent price. I want a fast 50mm equivalent so I grabbed this since I rarely ever shoot at 50. I'm impressed, it's sharp dead center with good dof.
