TTArtisan 90mm f/1.25 Reviews
Fantastic Performance at a Budget Price!
Super sharp in the center wide open (where you want it ) and gets sharper on the whole plane as you stop down, but lets face it, you don't buy a lens like this to shoot at 5.6 or higher. Amazing bokeh and great build quality. Some CA but easily corrected in post. Only downside is it is HEAVY! A great lens and about $13,000 less expensive than Leica's 90/1.5 ( but the Leica is better but is it that much better?).
Painterly
Having procured a sample of this lens before stocked it, I have been shooting it on the s1R Lumix. Painterly is the best way I can describe it. I own the Lumix 85mm and 50mm F1.4 and this is a different beast. Closest lens to this was an old Wollensak 360mm set on a Sinar 8x10 P back in the 80s' that I played with ( it lacked color saturation however). The saturation on this lens is great and the merger of contrast and color is more like a artists paint brush in detailed areas. Definitely a lens with 2 different characters , one wide open and the other much sharper at f8 to f11. Even with the sharper f stops the character is unique and saturated with a vintage lower contrast look. The absence of ED glass and aspherical elements may allow a confluence of micro rainbow aberrations within the elements and probably contribute to the character. Rembrandt lighting in portraits would be interesting. A good lens for play or serious work especially creating vintage still-lifes at 180mp on the S1r.
Shocked by the results.
Honestly, I wasn't expecting much. I'd used the 7Artisans 75mm f/1.25 and it was ok at best. But this lens is SHARP with a really modern rendering. It's comically large on a Leica M body but fits a normal mirrorless or camera like most other 85mm lenses out there. Would 100% recommend if you're a Leica M photographer and have access to a digital body for calibration.
Better than I expected.
Real world tested this lens on a Sony A7-II using a TechArt autofocus adapter. Manually set the IBIS to 90mm in the menu, and spent the day/evening shooting our local Eats/Beats/Eats labor day festival ... mostly all wide open at f/1.25. The lens is big and heavy (metal construction and LOTS of glass) but I do not care since it's so fast! Performed much better than I expected. Seeing that this lens is $13,000. less expensive than the Leica M version ... I'm very satisfied.
GREAT PURCHASE
This is such an easy lens to use and I wish more YT's would acknowledge the great lens it is! Yes, it has flair! That is the nature of this lens. Build solid tough, simply zoom 100% magnification of the image, focus on the eye and get astounding bokeh! LOVE this lens not as a primary lens but one to be used sporadically during my weddings
Very nice lens but HEAVY
I like the lens and the bokeh it produces. Note that it's very heavy and it's hard to go hand-held with it for long periods.
