Sontronics APOLLO 2 Overview
Add X/Y stereo ribbon miking to your recording capabilities with the Apollo 2 Stereo Ribbon Microphone from Sontronics. Unlike traditional ribbon designs that wither and die when exposed to phantom power, the Apollo 2 thrives on it, using the voltage to power its specially designed capsules and custom-wound transformers to deliver a rich, robust sound, requiring less gain from your preamp.
The dual ribbon capsules are placed in a Blumlein X/Y pattern, with one capsule stacked on top of the other, ensuring that incoming sound arrives at each ribbon motor simultaneously to minimize phasing problems for coherent stereo recordings. The figure-of-eight pickup pattern is well suited to a variety of sound sources, including acoustic guitars, pianos, choirs, and ensembles, and it is also a superb choice for use on room recordings and drum overheads. With the ability to handle maximum SPLs of up to 125 dB, the Apollo 2 offers a sturdier alternative to the delicate ribbons of the past and includes a sophisticated shockmount that effectively isolates the mic from vibrations and handling noise while leaving the mic element completely uncovered.
