Lexar 64GB UHS-I SDXC Reviews
Does not function at Lexar's advertised speeds
I've been purchasing memory cards since 2003, and learned early on to stick with reliable and reputable memory card manufacturers. My top two picks have always been Lexar and SanDisk, with ProGrade having joined them on the few occasions that my budget permits it. Whether CF, CFExpress, or some flavor of SD Card, I have never had an issue with any of these brands that couldn't be written off as a rare one card defect until today. I use SD Cards both professionally and as a consumer in both professional and consumer level gear. These particular cards were being used in a Panasonic DC-FZ80, in a semi-professional setting, and were intended to record 4K/2160p30 files internally in the camera. In the past I had frequently used this card's predecessor, the now-discontinued 633x series with the same UHS-I, U3, V30, and Class 10 ratings, at the same 64GB SDXC Capacity. Theoretically these new cards should be a little bit faster than their aforementioned predecessors in terms of read speed, and should have the same minimum write speed according to their packaging and product pages. The problem is that these perform just below their advertised minimum write speeds, especially once the card is about halfway full. For me, this meant that some of the recordings within the first half hour or so were fine and completely usable, while others were "choppy" and clearly missing data. In the second half hour of shooting the camera would literally put an error message on screen saying that the recording was canceled due to insufficient speed of the memory card. If I was lucky I could get a minute and 30 seconds or so worth of recording in before the error would occur again, but usually it was only a few seconds before the camera would cancel the recording. Thankfully I had a couple of the old 633x series cards left that I hadn't opened yet so I switched to those to avoid losing an entire days worth of recordings, and unlike the 800x cards they performed at the advertised speeds. I'm very disappointed with this product as Lexar has always been reliable in the past. I'm going to be returning all of my unopened cards like this to and have already bought the Lexar Silver Series line to replace them. I would not recommend this product if you need the 30Mb/s minimum write speed that Lexar advertises.
OK for some uses
Lexar memory is generally good and reliable in a professional environment. These 800x SDXC cards, however, do not perform at the published rates as expected. The video write rate is not V30, but actually averages just below that at 28. On a Panasonic CX350 camera, this is fine in AVCHD format at 50 mbps, but it is not ok for the higher bitrates of the .mov formats at 100 or 200 mbps. These cards will record for about 30GB of data, and then will simply stop. For true V30 performance, stick with the Pro level Lexar or SanDisk SDD cards as recommended by GoPro on their recommended media page.
Memory
Lexar you can't go wrong I had the same one 95mb but this is faster and as always great price
Love the speed
Before the upgrade I was using a 32GB 80MB/s SD card. If you upgrade your camera, you must upgrade your SD card to get the speed that you paid for. Stop reading this an DO IT.
Works fine, great price, but no case
These Lexar chips work fine and I trust them. I use them in both still DSLR (Nikons D600/610 and D750s. My main beef with them is that Lexar goes cheap on the packaging and does not include a simple plastic protective case like the other well know SD card supplier (name beginning with S). Early on in the digital memory cards business, I recall Lexar as being an innovator and top line manufacturer. I believe they sold the business to another continent and so it goes...
Super card
Great card at a great price. Very reliable and have purchased many without any failures.
