Hikvision DS-7608NXI-K2/8P Overview
Record from and manage up to 8 cameras with the AcuSense DS-7608NXI-K2/8P 8-Channel 12MP NVR with 2TB HDD from Hikvision. This NVR supports IP cameras up to 12MP. It is equipped with two SATA ports that each support an HDD up to 10TB, for a maximum capacity of 20TB (2TB preinstalled). H.265+, H.265, H.264+, and H.264 video compressions keep file sizes manageable while maintaining the best quality possible. AcuSense technology provides vehicle and human detection while filtering out false video content analysis alarms.
This NVR supports two-way audio. An HDMI and a VGA port enable video output to an external monitor (available separately) at up to 4K UHD resolution.

does the job nicely
After having used programs for years like Zoneminder CCTV and Shinobi CCTV on standard desktop computers, decided to switch full time to a Hikvision DVR. 4 Hikvision cameras at 2MP recording 24/7. The DVR has a nice feature of recognizing people, and not having many false positives due to lighting changes (sun/cloud/etc). With playback, can choose for the DVR to just play back the videos with people. Alerting zones can be set as well. Have a wireless mouse plugged into the unit too. With the cooling fan in the unit (this unit has a power brick outside the unit), don't expect to be putting this DVR in your regular living space. The stock fan (DVR date code August 2022 on box) is quite noisy and the high pitched noise does slightly dissipate with use, but not enough. I have replaced the fan with a Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX (40mm and 12volt). The Noctua package comes with wire connectors to cut and splice to the original NVR fan connector. I also have the fan blowing in, instead of as exhaust, and appears to run slightly cooler when touching the heatsink on the CPU. New Noctua fan is very quiet.

The fan is pretty loud. It's a small diameter fan due to case dimensions so it's not surprising there's some noise but additional fans at a lower fan speed might be quieter. I had shipment issues. Not sure if FedEx or BHPhoto was at fault. After 3-4 calls to BHPhoto customer support, BHPhoto shipped a replacement package which arrived on time. The replacement package BHPhoto shipped ended up being already opened. I found clear tape on top of the original sealing tape from Hikvision. Because I had already waited so long for it to arrive, I went ahead and started using the unit. I haven't opened the unit to see if the disk has been swapped by someone else.
