Gigabyte X570S AORUS MAASTER Reviews
A solid mobo with loads of m.2's
4x m.2 NVMe's all running on the provided heatsink panel makes for optimal speeds at all times.
Great feature rich board
2 months of ownership so far and I love the features and the speed of this board.
Great board let down by bad software
I've only used ASUS boards for the last decade, but the specs of this board convinced me to try it. Let's get the bad things out of the way first: - The 4th M.2 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIe x4 slot instead of SATA ports, so you lose it when using a 4th M.2 drive. - The BIOS is slow and clunky to navigate, with a noticeable delay between pages and especially when configuring fans. This is current as of revision F3c and may be addressed in the future. - Gigabyte's App Center, when it checks for updates, always will select to install third party software by default, in this case Norton Internet Security, meaning you have to be sure to uncheck it every time. Also the update check does not check for driver updates from Gigabyte's website, only from Windows Update which may not list those updated drivers. - Overclocking in my experience is sub-par compared to my previous board, the Asus Crosshair VI Hero (X370 chipset). I lost the ability to run my RAM (G.Skill Flare DDR4-3200 CL14) at 3333mhz. This also may be BIOS specific. - Wifi reception is sub par, only yielding up to 800mbps despite being WiFi 6, and being 15 feet from the router which is also WiFi 6. - No included driver disk, meaning you have to connect via LAN or download drivers on another PC and transfer them over via USB. And now for the positives: - 4 M.2 slots ensures plenty of connectivity, especially as M.2 format drives continue to fall. All slots are covered by metal heatsinks. - BIOS crash recovery is excellent in the event you set incompatible settings, although sometimes it will do a full CMOS reset instead of just recovering in safe mode. - 5 USB 3.2 ports. - 2.5gbps ethernet, although the number of routers capable of supporting it are few. - 8 fan headers in addition to the CPU header allows for plenty of fans. Fan configuration in BIOS is able to be done by typing in temperature and fan speed percentages, no having to manually adjust points on a curve. - Full steel backplate for protection. Overall I can't find a real reason to not recommend this board. Sure there are some things Gigabyte needs to work on, but it's only been out for 3 months, and I haven't encountered any stability issues, and CPU overclocking is at least as good as my old Crosshair VI.
