Designed and engineered as a research-grade solar-viewing instrument, Daystar Filters ' 2.0? Calcium II K-Line Quantum Filter is built with anti-reflection coated BK7 glass and highly-precise electronic tuning. The blue calcium k-line is sensitive to magnetic fields, so magnetically-active areas and structures show in high-contrast against the surrounding chromosphere; and this filter reveals complex temporal variations, also in the chromosphere.
Since much solar research is conducted remotely, there is an integrated RS-232 serial port that enables remote viewing of the filter's display and control of its tuning. Its concentration on the K-line makes it ideal for solar photography or remote image transmission due to the sensitivity of many imaging sensors to the K-line. This sensitivity allows imaging systems to resolve the different layers of the Sun's chromosphere at focal ratios between f/15 to f/20. The filter runs on 12 VDC power and comes with a 6' power cord with a set of international outlet plugs for US, EU, UK, and Australia.
