AD8402 provide a dual channel, 256-position, digitally controlled variable resistor (VR) device. It performs the same electronic adjustment function as a mechanical potentiometer or variable resistor. Each part contains a fixed resistor with a wiper contact that taps fixed resistor value at a point determined by digital code loaded into controlling serial input register. Resistance between wiper and either endpoint of the fixed resistor varies linearly with respect to digital code transferred into VR latch. Each variable resistor offers a completely programmable value of resistance between A terminal and wiper or the B terminal and the wiper. A unique switching circuit minimizes high glitch inherent in traditional switched resistor designs, avoiding any make-before-break or break-before-make operation. Applications include mechanical potentiometer replacement, programmable filters, delays, time constants, volume control, panning, line impedance matching and power supply adjustment.
