Each isolation channel has a logic input and output buffer separated by a silicon oxide (SiO2) insulation barrier. Used in conjunction with isolated power supplies, these devices prevent noise currents on a data bus or other circuits from entering the local ground and interfering with or damaging sensitive circuitry. It has TTL input thresholds and can operate from 3.3 and 5V supplies. All inputs are 5V tolerant when supplied from 3.3V supplies. It is specified for signalling rates up to 1Mbps.
