As versatile as it is portable, the Sky-Watcher Virtuoso 90mm f/13.9 Maksutov-Cassegrain Multi-Purpose Motorized Mount is more than an astronomical observing platformit can be used for conventional nighttime celestial viewing, daytime solar viewing using the included filter, or as a terrestrial spotting scope. Swap the optical tube assembly (OTA) for its camera or smartphone mounts and start wide-field astrophotography or time-lapse and panoramic photo techniques with its automatic shutter release functions.
The mount is easily aligned and outfitted with automatic celestial tracking as soon as it's turned on for astronomy use. Two eyepieces produce a nice variety of magnifications and the included 5x24 finderscope makes star-hopping navigation easy. Multiple slew speeds aid in finding and centering objects, while manual release clutches and dual encoders let you move the mount by hand to conserve battery power without it losing its orientation so it can maintain its tracking ability.
For terrestrial use the automatic tracking is turned off with a simple keystroke, and the included 90° diagonal puts your head in a comfortable position while horizontally correcting the image so views are properly oriented. You can set up to six locations and have the mount automatically go to them. This can be used with the camera mount and your camera with a remote shutter release for time-lapse or panoramic photography when you set the mount to automatically fire the shutter, or continuous video shooting with a camcorder. The included smartphone adapter allows for instant sharing and posting of sky or ground subjects.
Whether you want to view or photograph the sky, Sun, or seas, the Virtuoso mount is a complete platform to give you the tools to accomplish basic astronomy or tackle advanced photography techniques.

Sky-Watcher Virtuoso 90mm Reviews
I really like this.
I had been looking at telescopes for quite a while. This one was available and I was ready to go so I went ahead with it. It is quite strong. Beautiful sightings of the moon, Jupiter and Saturn so far. And it tracks them! How cool is that?
Excellent optical tube, some extras could be better.
Love the versatility, (telescope/spotting scope/ telescopic camera lense) MC are excellent optical tubes in my opinion only being exceeded in general use quality by SC. Do ensure you allow your scope cool down time for astronomy. 4 stars because finderscope is junk which is no biggie its pretty cheap to attach a good laser, but also have found that tracking is slow on mine, so it help a little but doesnt keep objects centered
Versatility Exceeds Cost
I must wait for warmer weather and better health to truly use this product, but I have been pleased so far. I bought this telescope for astrophotography, mostly, along with a T-mount and adapter for my DSLR. I am impressed with the versatility of this system that far exceeds the cost.
Excellent beginner scope,moon is awesome
I spent 3k on DSLR pro lens to get good moon shots. This $ dollar basic telescope puts those lenses to shame. I am still using the stock parts but the moon detail is awesome. I will probably get the erecting prism and a 7mm eyepiece later plus a 48mm to t mount adapter for my Nikon DSLR. The only big con is the handheld part for this to get the goto feature is expensive and hard to find. The best price so far is 250 from the UK. I have it mounted to a carbon fiber camera tripod and use 7.5 lbs of weight hanging from the weight clip to help steady it. The 25 mm eyepiece is great and the 10 mm is good but I will buy a better quality 7mm when I get that far to maximize the contrast and brightness and viewing size. I am new to this so I have lots to learn. So far I am very happy with the purchase. Great first scope or portable unit. It was between this and the Orion 90mm version with wood base. This one seemed the better deal even if I can never get the goto handheld since the motors will follow the stars even without the handheld.4 stars is only because of the high cost of the handheld goto part.
Exactly as described
I use this for front- and back-porch city viewing of objects needing high magnification -- planets, Albireo, etc. (I keep my old mini-Dob around for extended things like the Pleiades). The focus is sharp enough, and I love the sun filter. I've never had a clock drive before but it seems to work fine for near-north tracking, at least until I put my heavy old 25mm Plossl EP in which overwhelmed the drive. The included 25mm EP is much lighter though and is acceptable for initially finding objects, after which I swap in my old 15mm Plossl or the included 10mm EP (also acceptable, if a bit dim). And unlike my mini-Dob, the Skywatcher can focus when using a 3X Meade barlow with a Plossl EP.
Just what I wanted! Recommended accessories
Spot on and I am happy with the purchase. I would, and have, recommended to a friend. BHPhoto crew is/was great to; it arrived damaged and the replacement was a fast and easy. Accessory recommendations: Tripod: if a table isn't handy and you really get into this the recommended tripod is backordered and who knows when it will show up. I did extensive research and the Benro TAD27A Series 2 is a perfect out of the box solution. It's probably better than the recommended tripod. BHPhoto has it in stock; i got one and recommend it! WiFi Adapter: Want to make this into a true Go-To scope? Get the Sky-Watcher SynScan Wifi Adapter. I hooked it up with an old Android phone I had in the closet and presto, works perfectly. note: the Android app in the Google Play store is an old version and you need to get the update from the Sky-Watcher site; once you do that it works great. I had to get the adapter from a competitor, BHPhoto shows it backordered.
Terrestrial Use
We have a little place on a busy harbor. Large vessel watching is a full time sport. This telescope adds to our maritime fun -- you can watch cargo ships approach from miles away, and as they enter the inner harbor you can literally look inside the bridge and see what the crew is eating for lunch, what their caps say, every little detail. Great fun, great price, great product.
