LG 27MD5KL-B Reviews
Poor connections and not built to last
I have now purchased two of the ultra-expensive UltraFine monitors from LG. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice.... Well, suffice it to say, I will never again buy an LG monitor. They don't last and the cable connection is extremely unreliable. The USBC connection is extremely finicky and loses its connection with minimal perturbation. Bumping the desk? That is definitely going to cause a problem. Drafty rooms or solar winds? I wouldn't bet against them causing a problem either. You can't sneeze around this monitor without losing the connection to your computer. The first of the monitors died about 3 months after the warranty expired. That one was purchased from Apple, and I did not realize that the product has a much shorter warranty from Apple than it does when purchased from other sources. Be aware of that. Buy from I suppose. After an extended and frustrating exchange with LG Customer Support, they finally decided that my monitor was, in fact, inoperable. The only repair store was about an hour away. I drove there, spent $150 for diagnostics and then found out the computer board would have to be replaced. The expense for that was prohibitive. Ultimately, I couldn't find a comparable monitor, and thought I would give it one more try. The most recent one has lasted 14 months before dying on me. It seems to be simply a bad connection with the USBC port. The computer can draw power from the monitor but there is no video. A monitor that costs this much money should last more than 27 months.... or 14 months, in my most recent case. Yes, it is a stunning display, but what does it matter if the monitor itself is so ephemeral.
Excellent picture quality, buggy, bad support
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Really gorgeous picture quality and color rendering. Low cost for what it is. Even though the screen is plastic it is so sharp - almost as much as glass. It is buggy in that sometimes half the display is on the wrong side. Sometimes several re-plugs or power cycles are required to get it to be on the right side (applies to 5K modes only). 4K modes look nice and don't have this issue. Tried to get an *.inf file for the monitor from the support folks and they were completely clueless. Monitor lacks reasonable controls (color modes, brightness, sharpness, power button etc....) Monitor lacks support for refresh rates other than 60Hz so playing cinematic content can be jittery.
Great monitor for Mac OS
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This LG monitor has completed my Mac M1 Max system spectacularly. It works flawlessly with my laptop to expand my desktop, and unlike the Dell monitor it replaces, it's completely functional with the Mac system. That means that the keyboard now controls volume, brightness and it charges the laptop. When I close the laptop, the LG monitor becomes my desktop seamlessly. If you're hesitating, don't. It looks amazing and works great.
Perfect for creative professionals
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm a full-time graphic designer and have been using this as my second display. The resolution and quality of the monitor are amazing, and it's super easy to set up. I'd recommend this to anyone, especially creative professionals and gamers like myself who want the best display quality. Camera quality and audio quality are also superb!
Awesome display!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I went from a 17 laptop to a 13 for work and was worried about the size difference, so I purchased this monitor. I absolutely love it!!! Great picture quality.
Works as advertised.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had misgivings about buying this monitor based on things I had heard on tech podcasts, but I am happy to say that I have noticed none of the shortcomings that the podcasters had complained about. It is a really good monitor for the money and works right out of the box with my brand new M1 Pro MacBook Pro.
Crisp text and single cable connection
I've been using this for about 2 years. The 5k resolution displays crisp text which is easy on the eyes while coding all day. Just a single Thunderbolt cable connects the monitor to the MacBook both charging the MacBook and acting as a USB hub.
Beyond expections!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was my birthday present to myself. It is a fantastic monitor. Only issue it wss an open box with no.stand, no manual. Had to buy a hesvy stand for this heavy Thunderbolt monitor.
