Brunton Geo Lite Transit Reviews
Nice try, but too small
I bought one of these to evaluate for use in our introductory geology classes. We typically use Silva Rangers and I glue a circular level for measuring the strike of strata - this seemed like a reasonable alternative as a Brunton Standard Transit substitute. Unfortunately, Brunton crams so many numbers into the dial that it is very difficult to read with any precision and it would be very difficult to teach to introductory students. The same goes for the clinometer. In addition, after it was evaluated by several faculty, the hinge ceased to function smoothly and it would not close completely. Increasing the overall size of the compass would help, but that would increase the price.
